Playing with room control and then testing and tweaking with house curve app. Pretty happy with the results at this point and it sounds quite nice in my small office.
I was already happy with the feature set in announced for the Wiim Ultra. The price is even less than expected so it will be a nice Christmas present for me. I should be able to ditch my Pro-ject Phonobox and topping E30II as well simplifying my cabling setup.
Wiim wireless Subwoofer would be an interesting option as it could work with both the Wiim Amp and Ultra. I am sure it would be a compact design that would fit into a variety of spaces.
I do. I have my Wiim Pro connected directly to a pair of Linn LK100s and it works brilliantly. I also connect a Meridian CD transport and Project Debut Carbon via a Project phono box. The 12v trigger connects to a Panamax 4310 which switches the amps on.
I disagree. It’s certainly a preamp albeit in the digital domain. It switches sources and allows you change the volume gain and even has a phono input which seems sure like a preamp to me.
Just a thought, would WiiM have been better off calling the Ultra the WiiM Pre? It might help with expectations based on the name in that Ultra may set the bar very high in people’s mind.
I am not comparing it to the Wiim Amp. I am saying name another company making a comparable product anywhere under let’s say $800. I can’t think of a single two channel preamp/dac/streamer that checks all those boxes.
Look if this is coming in under 500, with pre-amp functionality, bass management, improved DAC, room correction, streaming and a touchscreen it’s a value that can’t be matched by any other product on the market.
