Automate old tablets as WiiM screen? (Experimental)

Great work @Wiimer! Now if there only was an easy way to get my "Google Nest Hub" to actually display some content I want to see on it's useless display!

    Room correction

As HGO said only on the main speakers (are low pass filtered) so you need to set the Crossover "Manually" on your SUB (higher than the one set in Wiim app), which was my point in trying to "overlap" some frequencies for a better response in your room.

I am from Sweden myself, so: "Ja men precis!"

    Room correction

Of course this should not be the first method of attempting a "fix", you are correct. But since I can both measure and have a quite critical listening ear, this method worked for me and made it sound better then just using "regular" crossover and depend on the steepness/db per octave cut off set...

    Room correction

Yes, I did it because there was a dip just before the crossover frequency and it was almost completely removed when I let the sub include a few frequencies above it. I did try different crossovers but just the sub alone or main speakers alone did not help it.

    WiiM Ultra Firmware v5.2.708441 - Feb 22, 2025

They should stop spending resources on it and just build a module that can be open source so the community can build whatever they want, then "everyone" would be happy ;)

    Room correction

That could be due to your room, perhaps a large piece of furniture like a couch or similar. Also what is your cross-over frequency for the sub set to? In my case, highly unorthodox most likely, I set a "lower" crossover in the Wiim for the sub (70Hz) and enabled full range out to sub, and a...

    Room correction

I do not think your room is strange, it’s just that speakers are almost never made to measure good in rooms, they are made to have a good frequency response in ”open air” or anechoic chambers. They then assume that you as a customer will make sure that the speaker you buy ”fits” in your room...

Volume control at WiiM Ultra vs DAC

Yes I was able to control the volume, and RC also worked. But Wiim can only sync between speakers, it can not remove delays caused by the hardware (usb connected device to external sub). The only way to fix it would be to perform the sync in the AppleTV and add a delay to video, but it does not...

Volume control at WiiM Ultra vs DAC

I am glad you found improvements! :) I also tried the SMSL PO100 Pro, but found no difference in sound, just the added delay with output the USB device adds which messed with the lipsync when using my AppleTV.

Tech Tuesday: Unlocking the Power of Dolby 5.1

I think it is a great option for people who think "Less is more" and perhaps do not feel that an AVR would fit their apartment of just want to keep it "clean". But yes, adding those "wireless active speakers" is a cost that quickly accumulates unfortunately, so an used AVR and some cheap second...

Spotify Spotify music pro option is $6

Let’s see if it actually arrives ”LATER THIS YEAR” as Spotify is notoriously bad at estimating dates ;) Also, I wonder if all Spotify Connect implementations would require updates to support the higher quality…. Thats a whole other issues in itself.

Tech Tuesday: Unlocking the Power of Dolby 5.1

@RyanWithWiiM will this feature also support already decoded 5.1 sound in PCM format? That would open it upp to so much more then jus DolbyDigital.
