Hello, a quick update. Although the issue happens a lot less frequently, it's not completely gone. Sometimes I still experience the occasional dropout.
The source for that optical in is a Pi3 with a Hifiberry Digi+, running moode. Needless to say there is no issue when directly connected to the DAC.
Hello, the issue with Home Assistant and the WiiM, at least for me, it that I also have an instance of Logitech Media Server (now Lyrion Music Server) running on my network and I'd like to keep it working.
AFAIK you cannot tell the WiiM to connect to a specific server. Also I don't like the idea...

Hello, I am also experiencing this issue. I have tried multiple input devices and different cables. I still have occasional dropouts, every few minutes, which don't happen when the optical cable is directly connected to the DAC.

I found that on the amazon fire table I can set it to sleep after 30 minutes, so that's quite not bad considering that this device has an almost dead battery. But I'd like to avoid to apply the same changes on the new Xiaomi.
BubbleUPnP can force the tablet to not go to sleep...
