Actually this would be a good option to have since you might need different roll off frequencies to allow for the actually acoustic characteristics of the speaker, sub and room response.
Yes, it’s a more advanced option, but any good bass management system will allow separate crossover...
@WiiM Team @WiiM Support
As per the thread title, could the Wiim team confirm what resolution the DSP in the Ultra performs operations such as digital volume attenuation and EQ? Thank you.
The analogue input goes through digital conversion.
You can see a technical assessment of the A-D conversion here and decide if you think it degrades the signal.
I stand by my previous advice on making comparisons and the kind of things that can create a bias in a subjective assessment, but it’s great you’re pleased with the purchase.
I’d take this even further and call it the SuperUltraPro…
Everything you listed plus:
AES3 output
Dante 2in/2out (with output matrix mixer for all inputs).
A matching Purify based stereo amp with at least 400w @4ohm too please.
None of these subjective opinions on DAC comparisons should be taken seriously unless the comparisons were made blind and with output levels matched. Sorry to be a party pooper but if anyone is genuinely interested in making comparisons like this then they absolutely have to rule out sighted...
I haven’t listened to them. If I were to I think I would hear some subtle differences as I have in the past when changing amplifiers in my system. It’s when you remove bias and other senses that realise our hearing/mind plays tricks on us.
It’s worth watching or reading Floyd Toole on this...
Assuming all are working with it their normal range and that you are testing for difference, not preference, and you are doing this blind then it is very likely you won’t be able reliably tell them apart.
Not rigged but fundamentally flawed and therefore any conclusions (whether made by the presenters or viewers) are void.
The test was sighted. The levels weren’t matched.
Everything you need to know about controlled audio testing can be seen in this video.
A Wiim power amp is a great idea, or a Wiim Ultra Amp. Either way, I think they must get away from using the TPA3255 chip and put a proper decent module in from Hypex or Purify to get the distortion figures down and the power up.
I’d want at least 150W @8ohm and doubling into 4ohm.
You’re absolutely correct!
And it makes sense why it would switch fixed volume on for a device with line outputs in order for it to be bit-perfect.
Wiim just need to remove the feature when using the desktop app for an Amp.
