Completely agree. Forcing updates is a big negative for me. At least give me the option of notifying me first and then letting me initiate the update. Now I'm just waiting for the device to get clobbered by either a buggy update or a failed update process that renders it inoperable.
I'm likely an outlier on this - I don't want anything more from WiiM, other than what the Pro currently delivers. I replaced a Bluesound Node 2 with my Wiim Pro, and now I pretty much just want it to work and forget about it. It do hope that the automatic firmware updates are thoroughly tested...
The issue completely disappeared when I switched over to WiFi. Seems like it took me a while to get the Wiim to connect to WiFi, but when it did it worked quite well. Our newest router handled the hi-res bandwidth no problem. Not sure why I don't hear the static pops when using the Bluesound...
