As a longtime LMS user, with 7 Squeezebox devices, I bought a Wiim Ultra for my primary listening room since it incorporates Squeezelite. However, I (and many others) ran into issues where Lyrion Music Server no longer started automatically (if running on Windows), like the legacy Logitech...
I requested that feature as well, so I can feed my primary and secondary (patio) setup simultaneously. However, I ended up using a Topping E70V DAC with my Ultra, and the Topping has simultaneous balanced and RCA outputs, which solved the problem.
Using Ultra USB out to a Topping E70 Velvet DAC. I have very revealing MartinLogan electrostatic speakers. The Topping, at least to my ears, has much better bass and overall more natural sounding.
Actually, I conducted my own "single blinded" and "level matched" test between my 12 y/o $7000 Bel Canto DAC 3.5VB and the $349 Topping E70 Velvet (using simultaneous digital outputs from a Squeezebox Touch as source) and having my wife switch between the two. The Topping DAC was clearly...
Actually, Wiim PM'd me when I also posted about this, and said it was on their roadmap to implement. That was a while ago, hence the reason I asked for an update.
There can clearly be a difference in fidelity among different DAC's (even after volume matching). However, the chip/conversion architecture is only one component. The analog output stage is probably even more important. Slight differences in SINAD and other measurements are likely irrelevant...
If it had the larger screen, but still included the DAC/analog output (for those with active speakers) it would be the ultimate Squeezebox Touch replacement! I just replaced my SB Touch with an Ultra, but pairing with a Topping E70 Velvet DAC, as I prefer that AKM chip over the ESS.
I second the motion to update the Radio Paradise feed for album art. Interestingly, if I stream Radio Paradise via LMS/SqueezeLite, the album art IS displayed!
Just got my Wiim Ultra today, and was likewise disappointed the Coax and Optical (or Analog) outputs can't be simultaneously active. I was planning to replace my aging Squeezebox Touch, but need two active outputs to simultaneously feed my main and secondary (patio) system. I'll either return...
