Hi everyone,

I've got a new Wiim Pro Plus. I've only started out with the Spotify & Youtube Music.

My setup:
Input: Spotify via wifi, Youtube Music airplay
Output: RCA cable line out to my tube-amp, then to my speakers

I'm very happy with playing on Spotify. No problem at all and it's still working. However, when I played Youtube Music and go to iphone's Control Setting -> select Wiim to play via AirPlay, i got a curious problem which I'm unable to find any discussion similar to that.

For the first several days, it connected to Airplay and played through Wiim smoothly. Then my wife tried to play Youtube Music from her iphone Airplay. In her phone's Control Setting, it recognized the Wiim Pro Plus, it tried to connect to it for 7-10 seconds. But there was no sound at all. Then her connection dropped out: the playback automatically switched back to her phone speaker. All these time, I could cast my Youtube Music via AirPlay any time, no problem.

Now, it reverses. My wife can play via AirPlay. And my iphone keeps getting her previous problem while connecting via AirPlay. It seems to me as if AirPlay only connects to one phone at a time, and once it registered phone "A" as current connection, the other phones cannot connect to it EVEN THOUGH there's no active AirPlay connection on phone "A" any more.

I've rebooted, reset to factory settings, updated latest firmware, got latest iOS update, re-installed Wiim Home app. My Spotify listening is still good. What should I do next to fix this?

PS: can my wife play her Spotify to this Wiim the same way I do?

Thank you.

Welcome.
Yes, anyone on your network should be able to see the wiim in the spotify app.

As for the airplay issue, never used it, so wait for someone else to reply!

Not seen that with airplay tbh, but you could always try using Chromecast instead from YouTube (although I recall that may need a YouTube premium subscription). Bluetooth might even be an option.

Edit: you could also submit a ticket to WiiM after this happens and see if they can shed any light on it. Use the more/feedback section in the WiiM home app.

@Mr Ea: Great! now i’m able to get the other phone to see Wiim from her Spotify app. Thanks to let me know. (It took to enable Bluetooth in Spotify setting).

@Burnside: i have Youtube Premium. I don’t have Chromecast though. Really would like to get it play properly via AirPlay because of better audio quality. Thanks.

The WiiM Pro Plus supports Chromecast. Perhaps you didn’t set it up when your first got your device, but it appears under Voice on your device’s settings page. Once you do set it up, your Pro Plus will appear as a Chromecast target in the YouTube Music app. Re quality, it’s rather moot as YouTube is only 256kbps which is well within the capability of ChromeCast which goes up to 24/192 lossless on the Pro Plus, compared to AirPlay which at best supports 24/48, but often just lossy 256kbps AAC.

Your Pro Plus should have appeared as a Spotify Connect target, independently of Bluetooth. Bluetooth has the disadvantage of sending all audio from your device, not just the Spotify stream but any notifications etc your phone might receive, so Spotify Connect should be used. Connect also offers other advantages over a Bluetooth connection.

@Burnside , you're right. I didn't set Chromecast up, I wrongly thought that because I don't have any other Chromecast device I wouldn't need to enable it. Now that I've enabled it, I'm able to cast Youtube Music via Chromecast to Wiim now. And thanks to your clarification, that ChromeCast capability of 24/192 far exceeds that of AirPlay, I don't have the need for AirPlay any more. Even though I can't see any benefit with YouTube 256kbps, I will prefer ChromeCast over AirPlay for other hires streaming service in the future.

I'm a happy listener now. Haha.
Thanks a bunch.

PS1: I know it's not a right topic, but... In the Wiim app Favorites page, I don't see any songs that I "recently played", never ever. I tested play BBC Services, the tested channels appear in "Recently Played". That's all. Is that normal as intended? T.Y.

PS2: The AirPlay problem still persists. Just in case someone can chime in and help to resolve (for future potential questioners)

Recently Played is the history of sources played on the WiiM home app; Spotify Connect and Chromecast Recently Played is stored in the respective streaming apps.🙂
