Airplay streaming from a WiiM Amp?

In January 2024 I purchased a new WiiM Amp-CB60 from Amazon (USA). It’s current firmware version is 5.0.729855

Until recently I did not need to stream from the WiiM Amp to Airplay and,or Airplay 2 devices. Circumstances changed. Now Airplay/AIrplay2 streaming from the WiiM Amp offers a significant benefit. When the WiiM amp was first released, I recall Airplay transmission and receiving was an advertised WiiM Amp feature.

For WiiM Amps from this time frame, was Airplay streaming output supported? If so, How do I implement this feature?

I have a Yamaha RX-581 AVR that supports AirPlay (AirPlay 1) input. This works for other AirPlay sources. Since it’s not AirPlay2, the stream quality is lossless CD (ALAC).

The WiiM Amp works perfectly for receiving Airplay2 streams. It also receives Airplay 1 streams from the iOS, iPadOS and macOS LYSONIQ apps (remote Apple Music content streams).

That feature was removed due to “stated concerns over "user experience and compatibility issues with future AirPlay devices"” and there’s next to no way of implementing it on non-Apple devices without Apple breathing down your neck and probably preventing it...

Roon claimed to have done this but I believe seem to be quietly walking back their position on it.

WiiM have tried to develop DLNA streaming as an alternative but I think it’s fair to say not many people use or like that solution.

As far as I remember the feature to use any WiiM device as an AirPlay streaming source has been removed when the WiiM Ultra was released.

There's been no official statement, but obviously Apple did play the important role here. I don't see any chance of this feature ever coming back.
