I find it inconvenient to connect to my WiiM with my Apple cell phone, or any other device I actually use. Looking for a dedicate media input to my WiiM Pro. Any suggestions welcome. I want to just leave the device attached - either physically or through BT, right next to the WiiM, plugged in so my music doesn't stop when the device dies.

There are still plenty of unopened Apple iPod Touch left on eBay. This would 1) sync with my iPhone/Apple Music and 2) get updates and 3) install WiiM Home - these three are actually questions for the forum

Do you think the Touch can support the WiiM Home app? Do these discontinued devices get OS upgrades? I think that since they went up until 2022, there is a good chance. But they are still $250 on eBay, so want to make the investment wisely

I don't understand or I miss something but once reproduction is started, you can forget the cellphone or any other device used for controling, even power it off or go away and resume anytime you want, or use another one while the reproduction has gone flawless.

I must be missing something. When I get out of range of the WiiM with my device, it stops.

I have a 6th generation iPod Touch, this is running the latest software iOS 12.5.7, and I have just tried downloading the WiiM Home App, and can confirm that it does work.

How far is out of range, and are you using Bluetooth or Airplay?
I connect with bluetooth using WiiM home. That's how I set it up in the beginning. Not sure I know the steps to switch to AirPlay, nor how that would help the connectivity question

That is if you use Bluetooth. That should normally not be needed.
What are you playing?
I use the WiiM home app on the iPhone. How else does WiiM home connect to the WiiM? It always starts by looking for my WiiM, using bluetooth I presume

From the control centre on your iphone, swipe down and open the Airplay menu (the wave/white triangle icon). Your WiiM should appear next to a rectangular speaker icon. It will deliver the audio over wifi with hopefully a better range than bluetooth

WiiM Home App connect via your network (WiFi), not Bluetooth. Streaming also uses network directly between provider and the WiiM device (e.g. Tidal Connect). AirPlay is different but still using the network.

I have just done a few tests with my iPod Touch 6th Generation, and can confirm that it can output 24-bit/192kHz from Amazon Music via suitable adaptors and optical cable. There are no settings for Lossless/Hi-Res Lossless output from Apple Music on this device.

I don't think that I would recommend this device as suitable for the OP, but would recommend using an iPad, even a Mini, as the larger screen is so much better than the tiny offering on the iPod Touch.

I wouldn’t use a physical connection to play Amazon Music from a device as it’s not bitperfect and will play everything at the resolution of the attached external DAC/device. Plus there’s no need to when the WiiM Home app and AlexaCast from the Amazon Music app are both wireless and bit perfect.

It was just a test, I won't be using the iPod touch with my WiiM devices.
