ARC problem

Recently, I have been using WIIM AMP in Korea.
But there's a problem.
ARC is not working.

The PCM is set on the TV.
Automatic detection from WIIM,
Reboot, initialization done.

The application connects to LPCM.
And if you adjust the volume with the remote control of Apple TV
The volume moves on the app.

But within a few minutes, it's going to end soon
Power is turned off in automatic power saving mode by itself.

There's no sound coming out at all.

All other soundbars and receivers do well.
Of course, the TV supports ARC.
The connection is also connected to the ARC-enabled port.
I'm currently using Apple TV
Even if I change the Apple TV sound setting to stereo
Same thing.

TV is a Samsung brand.

I've updated it, but it doesn't fix anything. I have some people who are in the same situation as me and have now given up on solving it. It's hard

Same problem here in Austria: no HDMI sound on Wiim Amp from a Samsung TV even with the latest Wiim Amp Firmware and TV configured to PCM.

Submit a ticket via the settings/feedback section so WiiM can inspect your device logs for clues

I created a ticket:

Ticket has been closed without solving the problem ... only some general hints I even tried before opening the ticket were mentioned ...

Any update on this issue? I'm considering getting a Samsung tv, connecting hdmi to WiiM Amp and chucking my Denon AVR with its ridiculous complexity and 1990's UI. Can the amp effectively replace an AVR (I'm fine with 2.1) or is it a non-starter with certain tv brands?

Update on my side:
Still no HDMI Sound on Wiim Amp with my Samsung TV (using optical input on Wiim for TV now)
Model: 40" Curved LED TV J6370, UE40J6370

Maybe it works with newer models? …
I will try again after next Firmware update.

I can tell you, in the world of AV/Home Cinema, ARC/eARC is considered a broken and infuriating invention by many.

This sort of issue is common, and not restricted to WiiM.

And in my experience especially infuriating with Samsung where it seems to work fine between their own kit e.g. tv to soundbar, but not with other suppliers’ kit

Unfortunately, what @Steve Woodhouse and @Brantome already said is absolutely true. The standard itself lousy and you might or just might not have issues, totally irrespective of the the price category.

WiiM probably just repeated the well known (?) basics:
  • Make sure that ARC (if configurable) is enabled on your TV.
  • Make sure to not enable eARC with WiiM devices (should not be supported by your TV anyway).
  • Configure digital audio output to be PCM (not bitstream or Dolby something or whatever, if such a setting exists).
  • Enable CEC on your TV (which Samsung like to call Anynet+ for no good reason). Make sure to follow the setup procedure described in the Samsung manual.
  • Make 100% sure you connect the WiiM Amp to the one and only HDMi ARC port of your TV.
  • Make sure to use an HDMI 1.4 (or higher spec) certified cable. Good looks, a fancy sheathing and large diameter cable are not enough.
  • Make or break HDMI connections only while all devices are fully unplugged from the mains power. In theory, this shouldn't be necessary, in practice the HDMI connector is a bit nasty.
If it still doesn't work, double check what you did, but be prepared to be unlucky in the end.

I've had no problems with a 2023 Samsung TV and the Ultra's HDMI input. Didn't try the WiiM Amp yet in that setup.

Silly question, but are you connecting your WiiM to the ARC-compatible jacks on your TV?

Some TVs have HDMI 2 (or HDMI 3) as ARC compatible.

No such thing as a silly question.
Just silly people who ask questions :ROFLMAO:

My Samsung TV has a search function for HDMI device.
At 30% progress the „Wiim“ is mentioned on screen, after finishing search „Kein Gerät gefunden“ (no device found) occurs on the TV.
HDMI does not work with my Samsung TV after last Wiim Amp Firmware update 5.0.623437.

arc problem
This problem is still not being improved. Other companies have know-how, so the little things that are not a problem can be a big problem for startups like wiim. All applications including hdmi, system compatibility issues! Compatibility!! I hope the development team will solve it soon.

Marantz, Yamaha, Samsung, nad I didn't have any issues with arc connection to all the amplifiers I had. I need to take this seriously and try to solve each other.

I would add another 'workaround' is to temporarily plug something else into the TV HDMI ARC port. Not an ARC device but an AV 'source' (DVD, Chromecast, ...), play some content, then plug the WiiM back in.

At least on some LG TV, I have first hand multiple experiences that this fixes the ARC port not working.

It looks like under some circumstances the HDMI controller chip they use gets itself a 'stuck' (it's permanent, IE, power cycle doesn't help) and by forcing it to change direction from output to input and back you can 'unstick' it. This is at least the case of some LG TVs.. I don't know if Samsungs benefit from the same cure though.

(y) for that trick, but (n) for this lousy specified piece of tech called HDMI ARC.
