I want to update and improve the way I listen to digital music and radio on my hifi and have been reading about the WiiM Ultra

Currently I have a Brennan B2 connected to my amp to play my digital music and this also gives me access to internet music.

For BBC Sounds I have a tablet connected to my amp via the jack input.

It seems pretty easy to connect my back-up hard drive to a WiiM Ultra for my digital collection and listen to internet radio via vTuner.

I'm not clear how to listen to BBC Sounds though. Is it just a matter of casting from my Google Pixel? If so, will the sound quality suffer?

That isn’t BBC Sounds. That’s just low quality streams of the live content.
For BBC Sounds proper using an Ultra you would need to carry on with your tablet which you could cast to the Ultra OR install Lyrion on your network and it’s excellent BBC Sounds plugin
I never said it was. BBC sounds isn’t available in my region anymore. This is what I came up with in terms of a solution. I doubt the quality is much worse than the actual app.

I use the BBC Sounds app on my iPad with my Ultra via Chromecast.

Everything works great although the only two downsides I can think of are…
- can’t scroll backwards and rewind in time in ‘realtime’ broadcasts
- can’t control the volume of the WiiM Ultra from directly within the BBC sounds app, you either have to switch to the WiiM Home app or pick up the remote (or on the WiiM itself)

Worth knowing the small niggles, they don’t cause me any problems personally and I use BBC Sounds all the time, Desert Island Discs is an absolute essential in my life…
