Connectivity (Mesh Wifi)

I have a WiiM Mini and WiiM Pro Plus that I purchases at the same time to be able to stream music in the garage (mini) and living room (pro plus). I was able to get the devices connected to the Wifi network, but I cannot get them to connect in the Home app nor can I get them to synchronize. I can steam to them individually by connecting through Spotify, but that is it.

I have a have tried everything to get them to connect but I am at my wits end.

My network setup - ER605 router connected to Deco X20 as mesh wifi router (3 scattered through the house). I have already set the both WiiM devices to be 5GHz only and have give them Static IPs. I have reset both routers, them modem, my phones wifi connection, the WiiM Device, redownloaded the apps, factory resets and reconnecting, but still no luck. I can see the devices on the network through the Deco app, but cannot connect when I am on the WiiM Home App. I have also noticed that if I am on the same node as the WiiM Devices that they disappear from streaming service on Spotify. If anyone has any advice or could walk me through I would greatly appreciate it.

Sorry if this is also not the right thread...

I have a Netgear Orbi mesh network with a main router and 3 satellites and my Pro Plus is connected by ethernet to one of the satellites with no problems. I'm not familiar with the Deco X20 but can you connect the Pro Plus by ethernet cable?

Edit: Looking at the Deco are you using Homeshield and if so could it be blocking the WiiM app?

I tried connecting to ethernet but still had the same problem of not connecting to Home App.

As for the Homeshield, I am not currently using this. Nor is there any items currently on my block list.

I have a pro plus and a wiim amp hard wired to my deco m5s = all link and sync just fine through the app. As suggested above - ethernet works for me in a similar set up to you

That is strange. Does the app give any errors when it fails to connect?

Not in particular. It will just give the troubleshooting pop up, and the "WiiM-XXX is connected to 'network-xxx' but failed to connect to device"

A bit of a shot in the dark but have you got IPv6 enabled? Also is preferred DNS disabled? That's if you can access the Network Status option in Settings.

Are these settings in the on the Wifi router, main router, or on the WiiM? Sorry for my ignorance. I read something about these setting, but I got lost pretty quick on what to check.

They're settings on the WiiM Device through the app. If you can't connect I'm unsure how you can change them. Is it possible to bypass the Deco network and connect your Pro Plus directly to your router with an ethernet cable. That should give you a stable connection at least so you can check the settings. Go to the Device tab at the bottom of the app then click the cog icon to get to the settings. You should see this page for Network status...

I will try this when to reconnect to ethernet again and see what I can do from there. Thanks for the help!

Hope you can get it sorted. If not try raising a ticket with Wiim Support. They may be able to look at your device logs to diagnose the problem. There is also a new firmware for the Pro Plus which mentions fixes with various routers.

Have you tried putting your Deco X20s into bridge mode (or access point mode as TP-Link calls it)? This makes all the Deco X20s look like a switched network which makes the network simpler overall.

Here's the writeup from TP-Link on how it works.

@evmiester

You said that you have reserved IP addresses for your two Wiim. Where did you make these reservations, on the router or your Deco system ?
Can you confirm that you have only one DHCP server running on your network ?

I was thinking about trying this as a last resort. I really dont want to because I enjoy being able to control the wifi setting from the app, and it allows me to monitor my network better. But I may try to do this to see if it works.

I made these reservations through the Deco system (aka the App).
I know I have one running through the Deco since it is on wifi router mode, as @hoohoohoo mentioned, but I had trouble navigating my base router (ER605) so I could not tell you if that also had a DHCP. I am not versed in networking, but I would assume there is one since I also have a switch and other devices connected to my base router.

Ok
Can you post the IP addresses of your two Wiim and the IP address of the device yo are running the Home app on ?

SOLVED!
There is a setting in Deco App called "Device Isolation"; I disabled this and it works!

This setting allows you to add devices to a list to be isolated from other devices on the network and can only communicate with each other. For some reason when this is on it was blocking the WiiM from communicating with the rest of the network, whether it was added to the isolation list or not. Must be some sort of protocol issue or bug that is not allowing it, but turning it off solved the problem. It does suck that I can't use that feature for future use but at least I got my music back.

Thank you all for helping!

Excellent, glad you found the cause. Happy listening 🎶

Hi I have a similar problem where when all the Wiim devices and laptop running Wiim Home are connected through Ethernet everything works smoothly as it should. But whenever I use a phone connected to the same network through a mesh wifi system, Wiim Home loses contact with the devices. Cycling the power on the devices remedies the situation briefly until Wiim Home loses contact again. Sometimes Wiim Home cannot see the devices on the network while Spotify can and vice-versa. Anyone know the solution?

Make sure that the Mesh Network is configured in Access Point mode. Else you will have a split network.

This is described previously in this thread and in several other threads.
