Does autosensing work well?

There are a couple threads with some people having issues with autosensing, but I would like to ask if it generally works well for people? I want to connect TV audio to Wiim Pro spdif input, and automatically work without having to use the Wiim app. Otherwise, I will keep my Wiim mini and try a spdif switch made by j-tech off Amazon.
