Double-tap preset buttons on WiiM Voice Remote to access additional presets

Currently we can access our presets 1-4 by pressing the corresponding numbered button on the WiiM Voice Remote.

My feature request is that a quick double-press of the preset buttons could access presets 5-8 to give us additional preset functionality using the remote. For example double-press the "1" button for preset 5, double-press the "2" button for preset 6, and so on.

Another option could be for press-and-hold to be used instead of double-press depending on what's easier to detect (or maybe both together to give access to even more presets).

I am sure similar suggestions have been made since remotes were first introduced, but few new features have actually been added to remotes. I have long wondered very much if perhaps there is no room for anything to be added to the current generation of remotes.🤔

@harkpabst,
What happens if you tap four times by mistake?😁

I am pretty certain this could be implemented on the receivers without having to change any behavior in the remotes themselves--instead of immediately taking action on receiving the preset button signal there could be a brief window of time (few hundred ms) where it could wait to see if a second (or third) copy of the same signal is received first before deciding which preset to load.

The roadmap for WiiM Pro/Pro Plus already lists some enhancements to the preset buttons, so I'm hoping something like this could also make the cut, as 4 presets is a bit limiting but 8 would be enough for me (and all 12 with triple-tap or press and hold would be icing on the cake).

Yes, I thought so too. And the "About this item" on the WiiM remote still says

「FOUR CUSTOMIZABLE PRESELECTION BUTTONS - Use them as presets to your favorite music or customize them to control other devices.」

However, a year after its release, this feature has not been realization. When I think about what this means, technical issues come to mind.

I was hoping that the new administrator of this forum could help bridge the gap between the WiiM Team and us regarding such suggestions and questions. (Sorry, new member, you may not know this. Welcome.🙂)

I am hoping for that too, but from what I recall it has been postponed many times. In any case, all we can do is wait, speaking up from time to time. (And I voted for your post.😄)

This request concerns the remote control and ways to have direct access to the 12 presets from it. It's more general than the WiiM Amp and WiiM Amp Pro. It's also possible to use it on the WiiM Mini, WiiM Pro, and WiiM Pro Plus...

I created a new suggestion post here refering to this one at the right place. Feel free to support it too ;)

If it had a usable screen then it'd need to be about the size of a standard mobile.

Sonos had one ( cr200) - really nice bit of equipment apart from a hardware defect which left the touchscreens unusable. Wasn't cheap either at about 250 euros new. Mine ended up in the recycling yard.

I always have a phone with me. Most people have old phones lying around that could be used as a remote.
If the phone is not too old to receive the Wiim Home App and your music streaming app like Spotify. And event then, you have to recharge it's (old) battery frequently. So a new remote with access to the 12 presets is much, much better.

A telephone for operation is a good thing.
But a remote control is also necessary. When you want to quickly turn a device on or off, turn the volume up or down, or quickly find an important setting, the remote control is much faster, is always close to the device, and is available to everyone in the house.
However, the phone must be unlocked and woken up, a specific function must be found, and activated; not every household member can unlock my phone.

And very few will remember what favourite is saved on 12 compared to 2 or 4. The most commonly used remote functions are probably volume, stop/pause & mute!

I've got remotes for my Squeezebox Radios and Touch and never used them in 14 years.

Different people have different needs. Those who don't need a remote don't have to use one. For me it's useful every day. Eversolo has a good idea, because they sell the remote separately for the DMP-A6 for very little money. Those who need it, will buy it.

As I wrote elsewhere, the only 'remote' I ever used with pleasure was the Sonos cr200 probably because it had a brilliant (but ultimately flawed) screen. The Logitech duet controller came a close second.
