Hello @WiiM Team , I think it would be beneficial for the Ultra users to be able to select a fixed output resolution as seen in other of your devices. Thanks

I’m having some issues with coax out to my dac depending on the resolution. Tried changing cables to suggested brand (Audioquest) and still it acts weird. Tried a different source and it works flawesly. Thats why I think fixed output can be helpful for fome users. I don’t want to discuss if upsampling is beneficial or not, just convenient in some cases

Welcome.

Looks like setting a low max is your best bet for now.
Do you want to discuss the drawbacks of downsampling? :ROFLMAO:

LMAO. I already have that going with my Samsung tv through optical out. I just got an hdmi audio extractor to see if I can bypass that bs. Its not even that, for some reason with no downsampling I still have weird crackles at some resolutions and its not the recording.

I have tested this feature now in wiim pro plus (latest firmware) with optical out now and the first time I have tested it was since it was first released - fixed 24/96 optical out. My impression is that the sound is "smoother" not soft. I kind of like it . It seems more relaxed with upsampling. I had set the pre gain at -3db before testing it.

I don't know if the algorithm can further be improved but onlyoneme had observed some issues in the first iteration.

I will try it on ultra later on a day. The latest firmware include that feature. Bit perfect vs upsampling.

Now that I have listened more carefully it is much worse with upsampling . It is blurred

Yes at this moment comparing bit perfect and upsampling sound was blurry. The purpose of this feature is for those dac that facing pop and click would fix this issue since it won’t be changing sampling rate.

Or the algorithm should be improved … it is all about the sound

To me this feature is no go! I don’t like how it sound. There’s some blurriness on vocals. Turn it off sound is good.

Yes absolutely.Imagine that others can improve the sound with this . The sacrifice you have to make is not worth it compared to the problem it solves

I’m sure it vary from system to system. It’s nice to have it for those who need it. This is why it has toggle for those who need it. I’m not saying it’s bad because it did not work for me. This is why I said “to me” your mile may vary.

It is also about philosophy . I prefer less features but very well implemented than a ton of mediocre features …
