Google Assistant will no longer control choice of music or playlist etc on Spotify when streaming via google cast to Wiim Pro. It worked fine back in January.
Now I can use google cast from my phone and some commands like "next" work sometimes with a lag. However, I can no longer use google assistant to select artist or playlist to play on streamer. If I ask Assistant to play x on Wiim Pro, it says it is doing so, but the existing playlist just carries on playing.

This is a not just a google problem because assistant works fine with spotify to select music on my other google cast devices in the same Home group .

Subsequent to the problem developing I have updated to the latest Wiim firmware 4.8.707959 beta. I have also updated to latest spotify version on my android. It all worked fine for less than a day. Very frustrating I have now been chasing this issue for over a month.

Have you raised a ticket to WiiM so they can inspect your device logs to see if they can identify the issue?

Yes I have thanks.
The last time I raised it they just told me it was a google problem.....however it is only the google spotify wiim combo that is misbehaving

this is the response I got from Wiim
Hi Philip
This issue is related to Google Assistant and affects devices from other brands as well, where voice commands for playing music do not work. However, once Chromecast is connected, Google Assistant will be able to control play, pause, volume, and other functions.
Unfortunately they are wrong Spotify is connected via google cast as it is now called. I can pause and go to next track using Assistant, but I can not use Assistant to start playing to change playlists or tracks. Assistant answers...playing x on spotify on Wiim but the existing playing track continues.
No problem when I ask Assistant to play something on google tv or on on another google device (eg Nest)

when you ask google which streamer works best with google assistant you get the following ...which is sadly no longer true:

According to available information, the WiiM Pro is widely considered one of the best music streamers that works seamlessly with Google Assistant and Spotify, offering features like Google Cast Audio, Spotify Connect, and compatibility with voice commands through Google Assistant.

We may need to check how third-party devices other than the WiiM work, as third-party products may have limited voice-controlled behavior compared to Google products.

Im experiencing the same issue as well, the Spotify connect issue just got resolved through a Spotify app update, but if this is an issue on Googles end who knows if it will ever be fixed…

A lot of people complaining online that their original Google Chromecast audio pucks are no longer working properly.

Definitely a Google problem.
