I tried the Mac OS desktop app and lo and behold it won't connect!! Gee,what a surprise! WIIM app software SUCKS and it always has. That's why the amp was cheap. It stinks and needs to be totally redone. Along with the phone app which does not work correctly. It doesn't.

Working nicely for most of us.

Can you please describe the issues in details instead of getting angry. Maybe we can help you then?

WIIM needs to code the amp so that when it has an ethernet connection ,that is enough to connect to their server and do all the settings chores...from that connection ,not using wifi .The wifi coding is the problem. Do this now WIIM, or buy back this junk box from me. I rightly expected more from it.

Could you try to rephrase what you're talking about? It's hard to understand what you want to express.

The WiiM Amp (just like the WiiM Amp Pro and the WiiM Ultra) work the same for me, no matter if I connect them through Wi-Fi or Ethernet.

I never noticed any smell from the WiiM Amp or the WiiM Home app.

PS:
What is your "lousy phone", as you called it?

Let me guess...

Your WiiM is connected to your ISP router by ethernet, but you also have a mesh wifi network in your home, and both your laptop and phone are connected to the network/internet over the mesh Wifi.

Not the first time I've seen this problem and won't be the last. Just so you're aware, this problem will follow you to competing devices (Bluesound, Eversolo, FiiO, Cambridge Audio, etc.)--so long as you a have multiple DHCP setup (one DHCP in the ISP router, and another one in your mesh network base unit), and you use ethernet to the ISP router for your streamer, this will continue to happen, unless the remote/app connects to the streamer by way of Bluetooth and not network.

In that scenario, you need to set your mesh wifi base unit to bridge mode so that the ISP router acts as DHCP server to your entire network including the mesh wifi. This way the ISP router lets your wifi-connected devices see the ethernet-attached devices including the streamer.

Be warned: this is not a trivial task! The easier solution is to use the mesh Wifi instead of ISP router Ethernet for the streamer. I don't see any advantage to connecting it via Ethernet, but I'm welcome to anyone who can tell me a reason.

I finally found a workaround for the problem. But I don't have a mesh network or anything like it. The issue is not entirely the fault of WIIM.
However....I think they still need to make the whole setup easier and they should as some people have asked, make the USB port more functional in the normal way. This thread is closed and good luck to the next guy who has to figure it out..
