Title: Intermittent Chromecast audio dropouts on WiiM Amp Ultra

Hello everyone,

I have been experiencing intermittent audio dropouts when using Chromecast playback on my WiiM Amp Ultra.

During playback, the audio suddenly cuts out for a brief moment and then comes back. In the WiiM Home app, playback continues to appear normal while this happens.

The issue occurs both from iOS and Android devices.

Here is what I have already tested:

- Verified my internet connection and network stability
- Checked and reconnected all cables
- Restarted the WiiM Amp Ultra
- Updated

Unfortunately, the issue still persists even after the update.

Has anyone experienced something similar with Chromecast playback or found a solution?

Thank you.

Are you using Ethernet or WiFi for the WiiM?

What is the source of the casting?

Is the issue only from one source or from multiple different sources?

What about other casting protocols like Spotify or Tidal? Do you see same issue with those?

I am using Ethernet for the WiiM Amp Ultra.

The issue occurs when casting from apps such as Poweramp especially when playing FLAC files, and radio apps like Rovr.

At the moment, I have not experienced the same problem with Spotify, Tidal, or UPnP applications.

How do you Cast from the Rovr App? And where do your Poweramp run?

Could the problem be when casting from your local device on WiFi? When using casting from e.g. Spotify (Connect) the local device is a controller only and do not route the audio data, while running Poweramp the audio data is provided locally.

I use a Samsung S24 Plus and a Lenovo tablet for Poweramp and Rovr casting. I also use a Mac mini M4 for Rovr.

Poweramp will always be local casting where your phone or tablet is proving the audio data. So that could indicate a performance issue (disturbance) with the local device or WiFi.

For Rovr it is different if you use the apps casting feature. I cannot see why that should fail if Spotify or Tidal don't have issues.

I have been testing both Poweramp and Rovr using the Chromecast function on my TV with the same devices and network, and I have not noticed those problems there. Playback works normally without the audio interruptions I experience on the WiiM Amp Ultra.

Thanks for the details. Since the Amp Ultra is connected by Ethernet, but the issue appears mainly with Poweramp and Rovr casting, this may not be a general WiiM network drop or hardware issue.

One important distinction is that not all “casting” works the same way.

With services like Spotify Connect or TIDAL Connect, the phone is usually acting more like a remote control, while the WiiM device pulls the stream directly. With apps like Poweramp, the audio may be coming from the phone/tablet itself over the local network. That means the Wi-Fi connection and performance of the casting device can still matter, even if the WiiM Amp Ultra is wired by Ethernet.

A few things worth testing:

  1. Try the same FLAC files through UPnP/DLNA or from a local server/NAS if available.
  2. Test Poweramp while the phone/tablet is very close to the router.
  3. Disable battery optimization or background restrictions for Poweramp/Rovr on the Samsung and Lenovo devices.
  4. Check whether the issue happens with lower bitrate/lossy files as well as FLAC.
  5. Try casting from only the Mac mini for a while and see if the behavior changes compared with the mobile devices.
  6. Reboot the router/switch as well as the Amp Ultra, since Chromecast discovery/playback can be sensitive to local network behavior.
Since Spotify, TIDAL, and UPnP do not seem to show the same issue, the pattern points more toward the specific casting path used by Poweramp/Rovr or the source device’s Wi-Fi/background behavior.

That said, please also submit a ticket through the WiiM Home app right after the dropout happens. That will send device logs to our support team and give them the best chance to see what is happening during the interruption.
