Line in work with multiroom?

If I've got a multiroom setup and am using one of the WiiMs as a preamp with say a CD using the line in, can I use the WiiM App / multiroom to sync it with a 2nd zone and if so any idea if the sync will be the same as using them as streamers in a multiroom setup?
