Ok, so I'm in a bit of a predicament.
I am using WiiM Ultra as a DAC and using the line out to send an analog signal to a Topping L50 headphone amplifier which in turn has a passthrough to a Topping PA5 II Plus power amplifier (powering a humble set of KEF Q150 speakers).
I have a 12v trigger connection between the WiiM Ultra and the PA5 II Plus. This allows it to turn on when necessary - as such, I keep the headphone amplifier off unless I need it (the passthrough only works when off).
I would like add a subwoofer once the speakers are wall mounted. Mounting is nonnegotiable due to space constraints and other factors.
I have run through all the scenarios in my head and have not come across an elegant solution whereby I can use a subwoofer only when using the speakers but not when using the headphone amp.
There is an update coming in a day or so that will allow setting presets to specific Ultra settings so maybe I'll be able to turn sub off with click of preset button.
This same update is coming with the ability to use Sub Out with USB. My question is - wouldn't the same issue occur there? Say you have an external USB DAC... you still have a power amplifier and headphone amp in the mix connected to said USB DAC... how is the WiiM supposed to differentiate between the outputs and know to turn off Sub when headphones are in use (to be clear, not the headphone jack on the Ultra itself)?
Aside from manually turning off sub out and potentially getting a sub with a 12v trigger too, I don't know what my options are. I could get front ported speakers, sure, but the Q150's mount really flush to the wall and I like them.
Any ideas?
