Loud tone noise with external DAC via optical out.

I have had the Wiim Pro for over a year now and have been using it as a streamer with a Cambridge Audio Dacmagic via optical out.

Had no issues when new but as of last 2 months (and most likely from last firmware update) i am facing an issue where when I turn on and try to play music via Tidal- I can see the sample rate of the file on the Dacmagic plus but can only hear a loud constant tone noise via the speakers.

I have to turn both the Wiim and DAC off and on multiple times before it just works as normal.

The DAC is definitely not an issue as I have plugged it into different sources and it works absolutely fine.

Been scratching my head with this and getting super frustrated as its a good 30 mins before I can sit back and listen to some music.

Anyone insight/advice would be much appreciated!

Do you get the same issue using coax out?
Any rca cable will work for testing, even one half of the rca that came with the pro.
What about if you fix the wiim optical output sample rate? (Not suggested as a permanent solution, just for testing.)

Agree that some further experimentation is needed. Have you checked to see if the optical cable is properly seated? Have you tried a different cable? You might even want to take a can of compressed air and blow out any dust and debris out of the port.

I've changed optical cables, tried coax- cleaned etc too.
The dac works as normal if my digital signal is from my pc - but only the wiim digital output causes the tone noise and its recent which is all the more strange.

That is strange then.
Have you turned the wiim off for 30 secs or more recently?
Otherwise maybe try resetting it, or sending feedback via the wiim app just after it happens.

I use tidal for many hours a day across multiple wiims, mostly via tidal comnect but sometimes from wiim presets, and I've never heard of something like this.
I can totally see how frustrating it would be!

Ill give it a hard reset and try.
