Offline mode for Wiim Ultra in a future Firmware Update

Hi,

I’d like to suggest adding an offline mode to the Wiim Ultra in a future firmware update. Specifically, a mode where you can at least access the Phono and Line In inputs without requiring a phone or an active internet connection.

It seems unreasonable that internet access should be necessary to play records from a turntable or to use a CD player or cassette deck connected to the Line In. These are standalone, physical media sources that don’t rely on the internet, so the Wiim Ultra shouldn’t need it to function as a preamp or phono stage.

For example, not long ago, I was doing some home renovations that required my router to be dismantled for several days. During that time, I would have been able to use the Wiim Ultra to listen to my records if only there had been an offline mode. Unfortunately, the lack of this feature made it impossible to even access the basic menu settings.

If it were possible to access the USB drive in an offline mode as well, that would be an even bigger improvement. However, at a minimum, being able to use the Phono and Line In inputs would already make a significant difference.

Adding an offline mode would greatly enhance the device’s versatility and ensure it remains useful in situations where internet access is unavailable.

Thanks for consdiering this!

The WiiM app can control your Ultra over the local network, pretty sure it functions fine if the wifi is up but the internet is down.

I'm not sure. But this is a request for basic functions like Phono and line in to work even without Internet.

Simply using the Ultra as a pre-amp to select the various physical inputs can be done using the touchscreen. No internet or WiFi needed.

For me, with no Internet, all the screen does is to tell me to use a device to set it up.

This is what I get with no Internet. Are you telling me your device is acting differently?

How exactly is that difference? If you read my post it is a request for it to work if you for example dont have a router installed. So no Internet. I just cant see any reason for it not to work without Internet.

Internet is external access to streaming services. Local network is for app control.

The Ultra could be used without any network but I don't see why that could be a use case. If you buy a streaming device you do for sure have a local network.

I agree, just because it might be considered to be primarily a streamer doesn't mean it should be unusable without a network connection - the screen stills works, as does the remote for other wiims too (except the mini?).
i.e. the app is not strictly necessary for many uses, so why force a network connection to be able to use the device?

Having said that, how many other manufacturers' similar products require a network connection?
Internet access seems to be considered a basic human right in many places!

This does not make sense at all to me. I decided to get rid of my old vintage amp and replace it with Wiim Ultra as a streamer/preamp and connect it to a power amp. Why should I loose the ability to play my records if I loose connection?

If I would have known then that it is useless with no Internet connection I would probably have looked elsewhere. Consider also the possibility that Wiim will end production in the future. Being able to still use it offline will make it less useless if that day comes.

Like I said: There is no need for connection for playing records so I dont see any reason at all not to implement an offline mode. Why is this controversial?

Again. It works without Internet connection. You just need to have the local network running. I don't see a scenario where that would not be the case. Even if you don't have a router it will work with a hotspot on your phone.

I agree it's probably unlikely in most homes, but certainly not difficult to visualise.
e.g. why shouldn't someone be able to just plug a usb stick into the back of an ultra and use headphones without requiring a network?
Why shoudn't it be able to be used like an old-fashioned bit of hifi, especially as the ultra can mostly be controlled from the screen.
Just 'cos you might never not have a network doesn't mean it's not a valid use case for others.

When you say no Internet what you really mean is no network at all.

absolutely the requirement of a network should be disabled.
So the requirement is for the WiiM streaming devices to work without a network and the use of the WiiM Home App (or other apps)?

Strange requirement but please raise it to WiiM via the feedback (where you need to use the home app ;)).

PS: The Ultra still works without a network as long as it is not rebooted.

What if people want to use it for server, USB storage?
