I know it could be just like the many other signs we had before, but... Spotify Hifi imminent? 🫣🤞

Hot take maybe, but I've been trying Tidal for a few months and I'm not impressed... It's just OK. Yes, the sound quality is there - which matters a lot obviously, but I can't shake the feeling the app and overall integration still lag behind Spotify's.
- no Google home/assistant integration
- Tidal Connect will randomly disconnect (while still playing on the WiiM for example). Also the Tidal apps won't pick up when I'm already playing on another device, like Spotify does nicely
- bit-perfect playback to USB C DAC's on Android phones is broken. It defaults to Android's 48khz. It works just fine if you revert to an older APK version (2.91.1 to be precise, which is more than a year old)

I,m pleased with Tidal..
But i support Spotify too I'm a premium member.
Maybe the hifi tier will come this year.
They said it so often they would offer better audio quality...
But this time I really believe it could be here soon.

Been happening to me a bit quite recently too.
Also had it disconnect from the wiim a couple of times just from skipping to the next track.
Who to blame...? ;)

No such issue here - I can fire up Tidal on multiple devices and tidal connect all of them to the same wiim and see / control volume, playback etc. from any of them.

As for spotify hi res, I'll only believe it when I see it!
The rest of the family use spotify exclusively, but I doubt they'll even notice if/when it arrives.
I'm sure I will though, as I pay the bill...

🥲🥲

If Spotify can actually match the sound quality with Tidal etc, I'd gladly pay a premium of a few dollars extra for their superior app and user experience and ditch Tidal again. And I don't think I'm the only one :)

I really think Spotify hifi tier will come this year.
They are making profit now there is a deal with Warner.
But its al speculative,i know..

Here a video according to Tidal. Ik think he's right. It's a good choice from Tidal to change their prices this way. If you have a family member subscription you can pay even less.

And here a video why Darko audio quit Spotify.
One of the ( main) reasons is they still haven't delivered on better audio quality.

Should Spotify stop with free subscription?
Pay for what you're getting.
There's YouTube music but is it the same?.. and there are ads too, aren't there?
Look at what you're getting..audio very important! why not paying for it.
A paid cheaper subscription with ads and without ads( more money).
Stop free subscription for Spotify?
More profit? High Res for all...? Or a decent price..

Inform people what better audio quality and good hardware can do.
Away with Orbit Vogg 350 kbps..the best possible quality.. theres the journey of a serious customer begins..
And Yes even when using bluetooth its an improvement.

Do Spotify have a superior app? It's certainly the worst music app, and user experience that I have ever used.

...to each his own, but I don't go along with it at all. Spotify with their kids interface, colorful and with video-attacks etc. It was exactly the right decision to leave them in favor of Tidal. Tidal is great and works perfectly for me.

Podcasts, audiobooks and video's aside, as soon as you pres the "music" tab, I find Spotify as straightforward for listening as it can be. And technically everything just works and seems a lot more intuitive and stable.

The video attacks, etc. can be switched off. The playful GUI is OK for me. Meanwhile they stopped changing the user interface every week, so this is also better now.
However, what is unmatched with Spotify, are the different mixes depending on your preference and what you’re listening to! Simply fantastic!
The audio quality for a lossy environment is nevertheless pretty good! But yes, as I mentioned, I would try high-res as well!

I had Spotify from 2013 to 2021 and then switched to amazon, deezer and finally to Tidal. I still have the free Spotify app for viewing 😉. Tidal offered music suggestions outside the mainstream and I simply like the interface, handling etc. better. We don't need to talk about the sound quality 😉. Connect was always an issue, I admit that, but since WiiM this is also a thing of the past 😀. I'm staying 🎸

I've been on Spotify for years, but now that I have the Amp Pro, I'm planning to give Tidal a try in the near future. Not just because of the sound but also because they simply pay the artists the most and generally have a fairer payment policy.

I recently discovered this online:

"On November 17, TIDAL announced fan-driven royalties, allowing artists to profit directly from their fans and subscribers. This money-making system is far more transparent for musicians than the royalty options offered by other music streaming services.
TIDAL will be the first streaming service to pay artists with the money from subscribers who have actually listened to the artist. Other major music services such as Spotify and Apple Music collect the money from their users and give most of it to the most successful artists. As a user, you are therefore paying musicians that you have never listened to. Many trade unions and artists have been criticizing this system for years. It favors the stars and leaves little for the smaller musicians.
This is why TIDAL has introduced the fan-driven royalty system. In this model, the user only pays for the artists he or she listens to. This will start in January 2022. “TIDAL supports artists with fairer earning conditions and faster payments, and fans get a better opportunity to support their favorite artists,” says Jesse Dorogusker, Head of TIDAL. Interestingly, fans can see how much their favorite artists are earning from their streams in their activity feed.
TIDAL has also introduced payments directly to the artist, which means that 10% of a user's Hi-Fi subscription goes to their TOP streamed artist of the month. This innovative earning program is paid in addition to streaming royalties."

However, if the described interruptions/dropouts occur, it won't work, I hate stuff like that, fair or not ... ;)

I'm on Tidal since three years ago and never experienced interruptions nor dropouts, maybe it's just luck, anyway you could take the tryout period and verify.
I'm liking too its suggestions, especially those from the actual playing song.
Tidal connect works very well, not as universal as Spotify connect does but as long as my streamer is supported there are not problems.
Spotify after all has decent quality but if you take the time to play along the same song edition and switch instantly back and fort from one to the other, you can easily ear the difference in favour of Tidal.
The only thing I don't like is that "recently played" list doesn't keep track of what played with "Tidal connect".
Also, if you are student, you can pay half.
Interface sober but effective.

I think that Tidal supports artist better from what I've read and watched on YouTube, if your a music fan I think that Tidal supposedly supports artist better and I think still partly owned by an artist.

Another big advantage of Tidal is that I can use Tidal with UAPP, USB Audio Player Pro (direct use of the phone's DAC) and Bubble UPNP. Connect wouldn't even be necessary. But yes, I can also confirm that in the last three years I have never had any serious problems/disconnections with Connect using the WiiM Minis, Pros, Ultras.
