Sub out stopped working after switching to usb dac

Hi,

Yesterday I switched the output of Wiim Ultra from line out to a USB dac to compare if there are significant changes on the sound quality. After some integration problems (I had to reboot Wiim Ultra to recognize the DAC [Fosi SK02]) Everything was normal but when I started playing with the room correction and the crossover point, I realized there is no signal output on the sub out, the sub is alive and active, there's no sensitivity based auto trigger on the subwoofer. Everything was working correctly until I changed the sound output. I did not yet change it back to RCA out, before further inspection.

Is there a known issue with external DAC integration? What do I need to check further?

Sorry, my bad for not checking the threads for relevant information. OK then, we wait...

Glad I read this! If I can connect the sub to my external (volume controllable) USB DAC will I get the full, low range frequencies from the sub?

This is one of several posts confirming that the sub can’t be used with usb out - WiiM are investigating whether that might be possible.

Is there anything that needs further confirmation?

You cannot use the Ultra's sub out when using USB out.

Hi everyone, I have a similar problem. This thing that when you use an external dac via usb you can't use the sub out bothers me a lot. Will it be possible in the future? I have some Dynaudio Focus 60 xd completely digital, they have a Coax digital input. I tried to connect the Wiim directly in coaxial to the speakers and the sound is good but when I connect the wiin ultra via usb to my DDC singxer su6 and then in coaxial to the speakers the sound is much better but I can't use the sub out anymore. This thing is really very annoying. I would really like to know if in the future it will be possible to use the sub out with the usb or will I be forced to sell the wiim ultra.

Send WiiM a ticket asking for their latest opinion on this

Is this still the case?. I am planning on using a USB DAC but i do want keep using my subwoofer at the same time. Otherwise the soundexperience for me is not complete.

I also send a ticket but after 13 days still not a reply from Wiim!!

That sucks! It's not logical also. Sorry to say that Wiim supports really sucks.
It's probably not unexpected to be honest. The same is true for Bluesound. They disable RCA and SPDIF outputs when you select USB out. I have always assumed it's because the RCA, Sub and SPDIF use the on device clock and USB uses the destination DAC's clock and timing issues would creep in with impact to the sound, if you use an external DAC via USB and an on device Sub out. But there are more experienced audio people here that may know better the reason.

Organize yourself a blind test of the WiiM DAC and your USB DAC and find out if you can even hear a statistically significant difference between the two, before excluding the objectively well performing internal DAC.

Maybe because they publicly stated their position in the roadmap on 4th Oct that they’re actively working on it?

We have to wait a little longer, they are actively working on it, when it will be possible to use the usb together with the subwoofer it will be a spectacular update.

Sub out not only uses the device clock but in fact the build-in DAC, to be precise (but maybe this is just too obvious, so you didn't mention it explicitly).

Data transfer between the WiiM device and the external device could be in adaptive mode or in asynchronous mode and in all honesty I don't know if both are supported. :) In adaptive mode the sending device is still the master and the receiver adapts to the effective data rate. In asynchronous mode the receiver is the master.

In any case I understand that there are challenges.
