CD/BluRay optical issue/question...
I have read all I can in these forums, but haven't found the answer that connects the dots I'm trying to connect. The CD player issue is problematic because it's hard to find a CD/BluRay player that has an optical output. Most have HDMI -- which I assume won't work for the Ultra -- as well as Coax output. So, I think I'm left with this option: get a converter like this (https://www.amazon.com/PROZOR-Optic...to+toslink+adapter+with+cables,aps,161&sr=8-8) that allows me to go from the Coax out on the CD/BluRay to the adapter and then Optical out to the Ultra. Correct?
Thanks for your help.

For pure CD I think there is still many with optical output. Search for e.g. the "Tangent CD II" or "FiiO DM13".
For DVD/Blu-Ray I think you will need the adapter as WiiM missed to include the Coax input.

From the coax out on theCD/bluray to the adapter and then optical IN to the Ultra

Yeah I think you have three options.
1. Find a CD/BluRay-player that has Toslink (Optical)
2. Use the Converter you mentioned.
3. Use ANY CD/BluRay-player and use an HDMI-Audio extractor to get the digital out (Toslink/Optical)
For example: https://www.amazon.com/J-Tech-Digital-Extractor-Passthrough-JTD18G-H5CH/dp/B074HHSJVN?th=1
Much appreciated, all of you! I've got the right adapter ordered. Fingers crossed.

That would require that your CD has an input. That would be unusual.

The DAC would also be much worse than the Pro I am sure.

Of course you can connect the analog out from the CD, to play CDs, into the Pro RCA input.

I have my WiiM Ultra connected to an external DAC via USB.
I tried to connect my cheap DVD player to play CDs. It only has HDMI and coax out. Coax straight to DAC works fine. If I connect with HDMI to Ultra (then out to USB) the Ultra seems to recognize the CD playing (little bars moving) but no sound out of the DAC. What am I doing wrong?

Yes your right there is no input,I'll try your other suggestion regarding using the wiim to play cds,I've just connected a spare soundblaster G6 amp using digital out,but there is no difference to my ears.

I'll stick with the WiiM's dac for now im really impressed with it so far I've only had a it just under a week.

The software is a joy to use.Thank you for the fast reply happy new year.

Not sure this is the answer, but I bought this adapter (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D7TDXF6?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1) and connected it between my BluRay player and the Wiim Ultra and it worked perfectly.

I tell a lie the RCA on my wiim sounds slightly warmer that the digital out to my soundblaster G6 which I prefer.

I do not think your are doing anything wrong. I do not think that connecting the HDMI output on the DVD player to the HDMI ARC input on the WiiM will work unless your DVD player has a setting for using its HMDI output specifically as an HDMI ARC output but my knowledge on this specific topic is limited.

For anybody that is looking into a new or used BD player with optical output check out the

Panasonic DP-UB420-K

Superb performance, low cost, pretty compact, highly regarded reviews. I researched a great deal for a new player as needed something much smaller to replace my beloved Oppo, BD83 SE and no regrets buying one of these.
