Ultra and Echo Link - hopefully

So on an impulse I bought an Ultra because I read about the echo integration. Then I read on here that it's not possible without and Echo Link device. Ok so I found a used one in "like new condition", but we shall see. I get it early next week, Monday? I've read about how to set this up and sounds a bit too easy, but ok.

Can anyone tell me what to expect as far as switching rooms goes? I guess it will be through the Alexa app and then back to the WiiM app?

History:
I used to use Sonos connect(x2) and a multi-channel whole house audio amp. One Connect for inside and the other for outside. Man what a great setup that was until Sonos started to not support different version and then features started falling off, along the way sold that house with the that setup and am in a new one, but not wired for speakers and it can't be without some serious renovation. So I settled for Echos everywhere, some paired into speaker groups etc. Ok, not bad and basically not that much money compared to setting up a useless Sonos network with speakers that cost upwards of $500 each etc.

Looking to do:
I would really love to find a completely Wi-Fi speaker setup that could be setup in pairs for stereo sound etc. Possibly even paired with a sub like the echo's can. Except I don't want anything smart controlling them. Does this exist and can the WiiM connect to such a system?

In today's age of wireless everything, one would think this would exist and be hard not to find fifty of them.

You don't need an Echo Link. The WiiM device is recognized in the Alexa and Amazon Music apps. You can also use an Echo device - such as an Echo Dot - to voice-control the WiiM device.

The echo link is needed to be able to play the wiim on the echo speakers around my house. I could care less about playing echo music through the ultra. I want to be able to play mp3's through my echo speaker groups.

Changing rooms might be a bit messy afaics.

The echo link needs to be in the Alexa MRM group (I guess “room” in your parlance) to which you wish to distribute its line in (see the first paragraph in point 2 in this post https://forum.wiimhome.com/threads/...usic-problems-getting-started.2016/post-30638 ), and while an echo device can be in more than one MRM group, I can’t really think of an easy way to tell Alexa which MRM group you want the line in audio sent to. It might be the case that the Echo Link is an exception and can’t therefore be in more than one MRM. Sounds like you’d need to use the Alexa app to take it out of one MRM and put it into another, and then start the line in feed from the WiiM app. Sounds less than slick…

Thanks for your reply, but yeah, that's the only way I could think it will work as well. I really wish I could wire the house for audio but the way my house is that's not quite possible for me to do ...
