Hi,

I‘ve got a new Ultra, for Christmas. With Coax Out I can get 192kHz output to my DAC. With USB only 96kHz. My DAC is a Audiolab 8300CDQ. It can handle up to 384kHz over USB. With my old Squeezebox Touch my DAC shows 192kHz over USB. With the Ultra only 96kHz. Cable is the same (Oehlbach). Ultra display shows 24/196 but DAC only 24/96. Any ideas?

Best regards

Norbert Tyka

USB out from the Ultra should deliver up to 24/192 like its other digital outputs, it does for mine feeding my Linn MDSM/4 amp/DAC.

I’d try power cycling the Ultra, making sure your DAC is also powered up and set to USB input. If you have another cable, I’d try that too. If those don’t resolve the issue, then please submit a ticket to WiiM via the more/feedback section in the WiiM Home app so they can inspect your device logs to identify why the Ultra isn’t delivering up to 24/192 as it should.

I tried all these options. Have bought a new cable too (not a cheap one). Ticket is submitted.

It is the DAC that defines the max sample rate and channels (via Control Transfers) it can handle and the host (WiiM) then follow that if it can.

Are there any configuration for that available on the DAC?

I’d imagine it’d be negotiated between the devices - perhaps there’s an inconsistency in how the audiolab does that that the Ultra can’t handle. If I recall, there have been Ultra firmware updates to handle different DACs so maybe it needs updated to properly handle negotiations with the audiolab, and I’d expect the Ultra device logs to show the issue.

Maybe yes. The protocol is well defined.
May look like they can only agree on using the old USB Audio Class 1.0 ?

The DAC is able to get everything up to DSD 384kHz over USB Audio Class 2. My old Squeezebox delivers 24/192 to the same DAC over USB, but not the Ultra. A computer delivers up to DSD over the same DAC. Cables are of high quality (Oehlbach).

No. Normally it can handle everything up to DSD 384kHz.

Hello everyone, I have exactly the same problem...

I have a benchmark, Dac3 Hgc.

With the coax, the sampling is correct, but with the USB obviously not. Something is wrong with the USB output. If I go directly into the DAC via USB via the Amazon Music app on the iPad, the sampling is correct.

The pictures are for illustration.

Cheers
Ron

Tbh, I’d be surprised if the usb output from your iPad was correct - the Amazon music app tends resample everything to the resolution of the device it’s attached to and might even top out at 24/96. I can’t really make out what your images are showing.

That depends on how you configure it in the app. "Exclusive access".

The pictures, USB (U) 16/48 and via Coax (D3) 24/48 available.

Exclusive access in the Amazon music iPad app? I don’t think that does anything in the Windows app other than prevent system sounds etc intruding - it’s not a true wasapi mode that completely bypasses the windows sound system. In my experience, it makes no difference to the Amazon Music app’s resampling to the resolution supported by the sound card/external DAC.

I'm also not sure to what extent the "exclusive" is now technically implemented...

I haven't noticed an audible difference so far either...

However, the benchmark never changes to 24 bit in conjunction with the Ultra.

Same problem.

Same problem.

Sorry I don't follow you, same how? I have no issue when I attach my Ultra over usb to my DAC/amp as it reflects the correct track resolution on track changes - that thread looked like an issue with that particular avr.
