Ultra support 5.1 via optical in and out?

Hi, excuse my ignorance but I'm struggling to find a definitive answer on this. I have a TV with optical out that currently goes through an old Sony surround sound system that's able to output 5.1. I'd like to be able to put this through a Wiim Ultra because, as I understand it, I can input via optical and output via optical. But will it output 5.1 via optical from a 5.1 source (TV) via optical? I cannot use HDMI as my TV connection is faulty, I can only use optical.

Many thanks.

Hi,

As far as I know, Ultra cannot output 5.1ch by itself.

The beta version of the wireless Dolby firmware allows you to link any WiiM device (except the Mini) for 5.1ch output.

Probably difficult to connect to your Sony. However, if Sony has separate inputs for surround sound, I believe it is possible to connect and output multiple WiiM devices.

Hi, thanks for your reply. The Sony doesn't have separate inputs but it does have optical. When connecting the TV directly to the Sony via optical, I get 5.1. I wanted to put the Ultra in between the two so I could control volume and program the remote for TV output, and that the Wiim's optical input and output could handle the 5.1. Is this not the case?
