Hi all, I am trying to understand the wiim products as an ecosystem

1. Which are the wiim products that can do source selection and volume control in its digital output? I am thinking after the wiim ultra to plug in my dsp (minidsp that turns the digital to analogue before the amplifier). As I want to use wiim for source and volume control I do not need to buy the ultra that has a display, unless ultra has more advanced hardware (in terms of sound quality)
2. Is it possible to buy extra remote controls?
3. Is it possible to setup an external display (android phone?) that shows what your wiim is playing? From my cellphones I think that yes it is possible. What I am missing is how to configure a dedicated android tablet to work as a display for wiim. I can have a tablet that launches wiim always. What else I can do to bring it closer to a usable display ? Any guidelines?

  1. Mini, Pro, Pro Plus and Ultra can control the volume of the digital output.
  2. Yes.
  3. Well, every device capable of running the WiiM Home app (smartphone or tablet, Android or Apple) can be used as a sort of display. If you want it to be "always on", the device has to support that. But you will find lots of different approaches in this forum how to display a now playing screen on other, bigger screens. E.g.:

My suggestion is a different approach than the one @harkpabst introduced.

You need to meet certain conditions on your Android tablet, but you can use a combination of the following three to link the control of music playback with the screen on/off on your Android tablet via voice control.

1) Android tablet
2) Macrodroid app
3) Google home app

[Required feature for Android tablets].
Must be able to disable sleep in settings.
(My Xiaomi pad 6 can do it.)

[What you can do with voice control]
  • Turn on the tablet screen and start the music app at the same time as the music request.
  • Basic music control.
  • Stop music and turn off tablet screen.

I have only recently started and am still testing it, but so far it is working. (I am testing this with Amazon music, But it should work with other app.)

If you are interested I can post detailed setup instructions 😊.

Your idea on voice control is just excellent and I am too stupid of not thinking about it :)
I think that is all that I need. How do I set it up and what type of tablets do support such features?

If you can set the tablet's lock screen setting to "Do not put in sleep mode" I think you should be fine.

I will post here in a bit 🙂.
