WiiM Amp - Does newest firmware still require WiFi connection to use wired audio signal inputs ?

8 months ago I configured my WiiM Amp to auto connect if an analog signal was present on the RCA jack inputs. However with an audio signal on the RCA jacks the device refused to produce an audio output signal on the speaker terminals, insisting I connect to a WiFi network on the same subnet as my WiiM iOS app. Everything had been tested as working 1 hour earlier in my home before trying to use the amp at a public event. This was needless to say, horrifically frustrating. Why would a "state-of-the-art" digital audio amplifier, told and tested to accept an analog audio input signal, which it was being given, refuse to utter a sound unless it could phone home over WiFi WHICH IT DID NOT NEED to do the job assigned: amplify a simple analog line level signal out it's speaker connections ?

Wondering has this been fixed ? Can the WiiM Amp perform a modest task even an old tube audio amp could perform without extra operator assistance: convert a line level analog input signal into a fluctuating DC signal out to speakers ?

Thank you.

Sorry, not really sure what you are asking about. Your text is a bit aggressive.

The WiFi (network) connection is used by the WiiM Home App on your phone to control the WiiM device, e.g. selection of the input source, and for streaming. You don't need it to just play from the analog input as you can select input and output directly on the device also.

The WiiM devices are all streamers so network is needed for it to function. If you don't need streaming or need to move it around, then a plain amplifier would probably be better for you.

It looks like you have tried to use the WiiM Amp for something it was not designed for.

A phone hotspot with the same ssid and security credentials as its normal domestic connection might have resolved the issue.

Maybe not output? But you can for sure change input via the remote. No app needed.

But I can see the OPs issue if a network is always required. The solution with a hotspot is good.
You did say you could change it directly on the device. I would read that as no remote needed either 😃
