Wiim Amp Pro + Plex on a remote server = Impossible to work?

I have built a simple hifi stereo with a Wiim Amp Pro.

Today I tried to connect my Wiim to my Plex server and it worked, so far, as I could not select my library. It is shown but greyed out with "Not available".

My first instinct was, that it had to do with that my Plex server is not in my network, but on a rented server far away. (Like the trouble shooting guide of Wiim also says: https://faq.wiimhome.com/en/support...onnect-to-plex-media-server-via-wiim-home-app)

But that doesn't not fit with my error message "Not available", because that would indicate the Plex media server is just unavailable. (I already restarted the server, doesn't work either.) So I am really confused here.

I already checked my "secured connection" setting, it is set to "preferred" (like suggested here: https://forum.wiimhome.com/threads/plex-integration-unable-to-discover-your-library.4831/)

So my questions are:

1. Is it even possible, that my Plex set up (i.e. using a remote server) will work?
2. If not, how do I fix it?
a. Is it an issue with my Plex server?
b. Is it a Wiim issue?

Thanks in advance!

From my recollection reading the Plex posts in the forum, I don’t think remote servers are supported. That may change when WiiM get round to releasing a plexamp client but that’s some time away.

Best double checking with WiiM by raising a ticket thru the more/feedback section in the WiiM Home app

I have had problems seeing my Plex server and it sits on top of my wiim ultra!
I had a vpn running and that wouldn't work without jumping through too many hoops, so I disabled it and did some port forwarding on my router and all is good.
I was unaware that you get a connection to a plex server 2 ways, either via plex itself with much reduced bandwidth sometimes or with a direct connection to the server but that requires that the correct port is opened on the router. The automatic forwarding didn't work so I had to do it myself. Sorry if all this is something you have already done/ considered. Good luck...

Yes, the current implementation of Plex is a bit of a joke because the server needs to be on the same network - instead of Plex usually working independently of your location.

We're waiting/hoping for an update where the WiiM devices will get picked up as streaming endpoints by the native Plex & Plexamp apps.

For those that have Plex Pass.
Who said so? Please inform yourself first.
Plexamp has become free to use since July 2023, with a few limitations:

Yes, a Plexpass is needed to run Plexamp Headless on a Raspberry Pi, but that won't necessarily be the case with WiiM... Nothing is for certain.

If you were talking about the PlexAmp app then what are you waiting for?

It's also needed for PlexAmp on Lumin and Audiolab (the only other manufacturers who have implemented it I believe), so we have to assume that's not going to change - without at least upsetting those manufacturers!

Thanks for all your feedback. Let's hope the Plex implementation gets enhanced some time.

I decided to hook up a USB device to my Wiim. Less bandwith, that's also great.
