Just got a wiim amp to use mainly for TV sound. I previously used a Samsung soundbar with my new Hisense U8N tv. Problem is if I change the channel on u tube tv or change to different streaming app or turn the TV off the sound goes off. I've changed hdmi cables with the same results. Hoping for easy plug and play.

Welcome.

What am I not getting here...
"wiim amp to use mainly for TV sound... Problem is if I ... turn the TV off the sound goes off."

Also, can you check your tv is set to pcm output over hdmi.
I think the amp only likes pcm. (I'm sure someone will correct me if the amp can handle 5.1 too.)

When you say switch to different streaming apps, can you be more specific?

I mean when I turn the TV off there is no sound when I turn it back on. Don't know what PCM is. If I change to Netflix from utube tv

Hi

I have a Hisense U7E connected to the HDMI ARC on my WiiM amp. No problems as you describe. Perhaps there is a problem with your TV and amp settings. Try setting it up as follows

[WiiM amp]
WiiM home app > Device > Gear icon on the device card of the WiiM amp > Audio Input

Turn on Auto-sensing, Per-source volume control and CEC here.

[TV]

Settings > Audio Settings > Advanced Audio Output Settings > Digital Audio Output > "Select PCM"

Miscellaneous Settings > HDMI Linkage Settings > HDMI Linkage Settings > Turn on all linkages and set "Sound System" as the preferred speaker at power on.

If these settings are correct, amp will turn off when the TV is turned off, and turn on again when the TV is turned on.

Also, if you use the Netflix or YouTube buttons on the TV remote to switch between apps, the amp will output audio from the amp without any problems.

If this does not solve the problem, unplug the power cable from the TV and amp after disconnecting the HDMI cable, and after at least 10 minutes, plug the HDMI cable back in and turn it on. This will restart the TV and may resolve the HDMI error.

BTW, what is the length of the HDMI cable you are currently using?

E arc
The music works but not the TV . Once I go to music I can't get out of it. I'm frustrated...ready to return it to Amazon.

WiiM does not support eARC. Please turn off eARC on your TV.

How do I do that?
For U8N, HDMI Linked Settings > eARC Mode

Before doing so, make sure the HDMI cable is connected to HDMI 2 (eARC/ARC) on your TV.

For Samsung, search for eARC in the online manual.

My TV is connected via HDMI ARC and works just fine. It just needs to be in PCM over HDMI mode.
The comment was about eARC vs. ARC.

WiiM devices do support ARC, of course. That's the whole point about the HDMI port.

But so far no WiiM device supports eARC.

Good morning, I have a similar problem with my Amp.
As soon as I switch on my TV with any TV sources, the Amp awakes but I only have sound via Amp when watching my Amazon Fire Stick connected to the TV via HDMI or when watching any integrated TV app like YouTube but when I just start watching direct cable TV via TV cable tuner without any streamer, the TV starts with internal speakers and as soon as the Amp awakes it switches over to the Amp but I have no more sound. I know it worked in the beginning but meanwhile something has happened and I don’t know what.

My TV is a Samsung GQ 55 Q85R

Why you said to stick the Amp to HDMI 2?

Thx

Maybe your TV changes to another audio output type like Dolby Digital when you use the cable tuner? The WiiM HDMI only supports the PCM format.

Okay maybe I didn’t explain it well enough.
As soon as I switch on the TV I don’t want the AMP to come on automatically.

However, meanwhile I have sound via WiiM over cable TV and I hope it will stay like this after some time but my main issue still remains why does the WiiM switch on which then is probably a TV HDMI setting and not a WiiM setting right?
