Hello,

I want to install a TV along with 4 speakers in an outdoor pool and I thought on Wiim amp as amplifier. I have a few question related to the functionality of the setup:

  • I understood from other topics that I shouldn't connect more than 4 8ohm speakers in parallel to the system.
  • I will plug the TV with HDMI in the Wiim amp so I assume the 4 speakers will reproduce its sound. What happens if I want to streaming music in the 4 speakers through AirPlay while I leave the TV on, but muted? Will the system be muted as well, or will it reproduce the AirPlay?
  • Can I control the volume of the two pairs of speakers separately in the app?
  • What would be a good cost-benefit for 2 pairs of stereo 8ohm outdoor speakers? Any recommendation?
  • Considering that is an outdoor area but the Wiim Amp would be on a covered place (protected from rain and sun), and also considering the setup with a TV + 4 speakers, will Wiim Amp overheat?
  • The speakers will be no more than 10m away from the Wiim Amp. What would be the appropriate outdoor cable to be used?
Thank you!

Correct.

I will plug the TV with HDMI in the Wiim amp so I assume the 4 speakers will reproduce its sound. What happens if I want to streaming music in the 4 speakers through AirPlay while I leave the TV on, but muted? Will the system be muted as well, or will it reproduce the AirPlay?
The WiiM Amp supports auto-sensing of inputs. When multiple inputs are sending a signal there is a certain order of precedence. Your scenario should work out immediately, I think. Auto-sensing of Line in and Optical/HDMI can be disabled, if you prefer. See this phenomenal list of auto-sensing actions under different conditions:

Can I control the volume of the two pairs of speakers separately in the app?
No. The WiiM Amp features just one stereo set of binding posts (and amplifier channels). You can run two pairs of speakers in parallel (providing they are all >= 8 ohms), but you cannot control the volume between the pairs independently.

What would be a good cost-benefit for 2 pairs of stereo 8ohm outdoor speakers? Any recommendation?
Sorry, no idea. Not my use case and will depend on what's available in your part of the world.

Considering that is an outdoor area but the Wiim Amp would be on a covered place (protected from rain and sun), and also considering the setup with a TV + 4 speakers, will Wiim Amp overheat?
I don't see no reason to fear overheating. Just make sure (I need to mention it once again) that the nominally 8 ohm speakers really don't drop below much below 8 ohms in the bass region. Unfortunately this is not always the case. Best to look up a technical review of the speakers you intend to buy.

The speakers will be no more than 10m away from the Wiim Amp. What would be the appropriate outdoor cable to be used?
There are many online wire gauge calculators like e.g. this one:

If you enter a distance of 10 m, 60 Watts RMS and 8 ohms the recommendation will be 18 gauge pure copper cable. Personally, I would pick 16 gauge pure copper cable to be on the safe side. No matter what you do, do not buy CCA (copper-clad aluminium) cable, regardless of size. It's crap.
