hello, this might be a very basic question and for sure results from my ignorance but I'll appreciate your help. I've been using wiim mini for a while with a pair of powered speakers. love it. I'm using it pretty much exclusively to listen to spotify. Now, I want to add a single speaker to the kitchen and I want to be able to group it with the existing pair. My first thought was to buy a new powered speaker with aux in + a new wiim mini. I assume this would work. However, I see there is a number of speakers out there with spotify connect built in. Would I be able to group such a speaker with the existing pair w/o a new wiim mini? Thanks!

No, Spotify itself doesn’t support grouping target devices, you’d need to group your Mini with a compatible device, then get Spotify to connect to that group. WiiM have just released (in the USA anyway) WiiM Edition Audio Pro A10 mkii & C10 mkii speakers that would fit the bill, but there may be others.

Having wiim mini baked into a speaker would do the trick for me. Will keep my eye on this for sure. In the meantime - if I can't group speakers in Spotify, what other options are there (apart from: "a new powered speaker with aux in + a new wiim mini.")? Thanks a lot!

On another note, Burnside, as I'm just going thru the thread announcing these speakers. Do I understand well that I could get the standard Audio Pros (not the wiim edition which doesn't seem to be available in the EU) and pair them thru the wiim app with the wiim mini speakers?

From what others have said, this appears to be the case however the vanilla Audio Pros only support a subset of what the WiiM Edition can do (which are much more akin to having a mini inside a speaker). However, for your needs of paring with a mini for Spotify use, it does look like the vanilla Audio Pros would suffice.

Hi donmario,

The WiiM Edition Audio Pro A10 MKII or C10 MKII should meet your needs. Both models are available on Amazon US: A10 and C10. Please give them a try, and let us know about your experience!

Given the mini can appear as an Alexa device, you could even use an Amazon echo as your powered speaker in the kitchen, and group that with the mini in the Alexa app and cast from Spotify to that group.
Thanks again. I'm trying to minimise the dependencies and keep things simple. Well, at least that's the idea :) I think I'll wait for the wiim edition of the speakers hoping they'll make them available in the EU soon (launching products before Christmas makes sense, right?).
