I have a ultra streamer and two WiiM sound as a stereo pair for the ultra. I already created a group including the ultra and the two sounds.
My issue is, that every time i listen to a song, streamed, to the ultra, it won‘t recognize the group and starts playing without any sound.

going to app, I can chose the Ultra+Sound group but then next issue appears and each sounds is playing a stereo signal and not the dedicated left/right signal, i assigned to them.

I wish I could have an option for the sounds as the default audio output, pretty much like bluetooth, optical or line out.

Hi

Which streaming service do you use?
Also, have you configured the two WiiM Sound units as L/R as shown below?

Normally, I don’t think the stereo pair configuration will be disrupted unless you ungroup them.

in this example, i used spotify.

This morning, i set up a whole new stereo-group and an other wiim-ultra group and until now everything works just fine.
It used to look, like artached, but now it looks like your screenshot

Please note that Spotify Connect must be connected to a persistent group (WiiM Soundstage). Connecting to Ultra will cause the group to be unlinked.

I already noticed this issue. Thanks 👍🏻
Unfortunately, the persistent (Wiim Soundstage) group, isn’t recognized by the YouTube Music app, which I also use.

A little bit of topic, but i got a wiim Mini as an airplay receiver, and I set up a persistent group including the mini and the 2 Sounds. Using any app in my iPhone a can connect to the mini itself but not to the persistent mini group. Do you have any idea, what might be the problem. Pretty much the same problem as described, when using YouTube Music and googleCast protocol.

Thanks in advance

I’ve never used AirPlay before, so I might be wrong, but I think you need to create a group using AirPlay. However, since WiiM Sound (WS) isn’t compatible with AirPlay, you can’t group them. Therefore, you’ll need to connect the Mini and the two WS units using AUX cables (you’ll need a splitter cable).

The same applies to Chromecast. You need to create a group in Google Home. However, since the Mini isn’t compatible with Chromecast, you can’t group it..

If you play YouTube Music through the WiiM app, you can play it in a persistent group.

I don't think AirPlay has the concept of a group, you just add devices ad hoc during playback.

This is how it looks if I, what I never do, play Qobuz via Airplay. It is possible to group the devices with the circles. No chance with the streamer, although he offers Airplay. Similar look and behavior from Apple Music via Airplay.

I’ll give it a try. YouTube music trough WiiM App works just fine, but I have 2 different YT-Music accounts and the second one needs to cast the music via Google Cast/Airplay because I can‘t login to my second account using the WiiM App (long story).

To solve my Airplay (Group) Problem, maybe I just connect my Mini and the Ultra using the included optical Cabel. I think this could work.

Thanks for your recommendations and solutions.

You can build a stereo pair with two similar HomePods. But my idea was to create a persistent group including the WiiM app, and just use the Mini as a receiver for airplay.

last night i connected the Mini with my Ultra, but I couldn’t get any sound from my WiiM Sounds. I chose optical as input but there was no music recognized by the ultra in my Ultra Group

As you can see, the Mini received the music via Airplay 🤔

You'd need to have the Mini as the lead device in a group along with your Ultra and other devices. From your screenshot, the mini is standalone, unconnected to the other devices

Edit - Sorry, ignore that. You need to have the Mini's audio output set to optical, as well as the Ultra's input set to optical. Is your optical cable firmly seated at both ends, or do you have another you can try?

Did you remember to set output on the Mini to optical also?

Output was set to optical at the mini and ultra input was set to optical as you can see in the screenshot. I used the optical which came with the mini. Telling by the red light, coming through the cable, at lest the Mini output should work properly

Does it work for sources other than Airplay e.g. maybe a radio station or streaming service?

I used fixed volume output. Maybe something is wrong with my optical output resolution settings, because i don’t have a clue how it should be set up. Even the test tone didn’t work
