I have an Ultra for about a month now. Very feature packed and good value for money. However, Its getting hot. Also without a power button it seems to be running 24/7, even with auto standby engaged. Is this normal for the Ultra?

Have yet to measure the power draw, but it seems like the unit won't go into a real stand-by. As the heat coming from the unit seems to be 24/7.

Yes, that's normal. Between 5-6 watts on or off. You could use a smartplug as many members do if it's an issue.
However, Its getting hot
How hot?
You could power cycle your ultra. Unplug the Ultra for a couple of mins and plug back in again and see if that makes a difference

That's quite allot for "stand-by" Tbh.

Done that, no difference.

I can't find my laser heat gun, but it's hot to the touch. Way more heat than I'd anticipated for on a streamer. for reference, it's getting as hot as a 10 year MacBook on full blast.

WiiM used to say it was less than 2W but that info has been removed. The Amp is only 3W.

Without an actual temperature reading, we can't advise whether your Ultra is hotter than you would expect.
Mine is currently just over 30℃ after a couple of hours use, and that is barely warm to the touch.

Mine is cold to the touch, but it has been in standby mode for a while now.

How warm is the room it is in as that may be contributing to how warm it is.

I suspect that these posts regarding ‘hot’ device temperatures are concerns expressed by some but lack substance. It’s perfectly normal for a piece of electronics like the WiiM Ultra or Amp Pro or Amp Ultra to feel quite warm - and by that I mean noticeably warm than normal body temperature.

Most of these posters seem reluctant, or unable to provide actual temperatures of the item, and also the ambient room temperature, so without such information we don't know if their idea of 'hot' is actually hot, or just luke warm.

They should be able to access the CPU and tmp102 temperature though.

That information isn't available for the Ultra, but is available for the various Amps.
Here's the information for my Amp "temperature_cpu": "39", "temperature_tmp102": "-998"
The tmp102 figure is rather odd.

I have just rebooted my Amp, and the temperature readings look better now.
"temperature_cpu": "40", "temperature_tmp102": "36"

That is an error that occurs during standby. If you play music, the temperature should display normally.
That makes sense because I have just checked it again, and it has gone back to "-998".
Is that something that you have noticed with your Amp, as I don't remember reading about this on the forum.

Yes, I get the same error with my Amp. However, I have not seen this with Amp Ultra and Amp Pro.

Strange that it isn't available for the Ultra. Isn't there a status page at all?
