Here's my setup, going from the Wiim into the Sabaj A30a via coax. I tried via USB to start with, but I found it unstable - not sure if it was something to do with the Wiim, the cable, or the Sabaj, but it's been rock solid since I went over to coax. People seem to think the USB sounds better though, so I might go back and try and work out why it was dropping out. I heard that the sub-out isn't active if you're playing via USB, but the Sabaj also has a sub-out that implements selectable crossover frequencies. Too many variables...
Apparently, the Sabaj doesn't have a DAC inside, but rather the signal is fed directly into the amp stage. I don't understand the technicalities, but the Sabaj is supposedly a very similar product to the VMV A2, and there are one or two other digital amps around. Anyway, I was interested in pairing the two, and it's been glorious. After DSP up to 7kHz, and incorporating a little sub that's on loan from a friend, my system has never sounded so good. I've never heard a really wide, defined soundstage at home before - it's given me goosebumps a few times
The turntable is a Lenco with a PTP and a Rega RB 300 arm that's hiding in the background, into a Meridien 201 that I'm using as a phono pre. I find the Meridien sounds better than the internal pre in the Wiim, but I'd love to get my hands on the Waxwing phono stage, going into the optical in. One day...
