Currently using Yamaha RN803 with musiccast to stream Tidal. Tidal connect is not available to use with this receiver so have to use Musiccast app which imo is not great. Have been considering adding a Wiim pro plus to allow streaming using Tidal Connect. Don’t know if I will see much of difference in sound quality just really want to move away from musiccast app. Anyone have comments on doing this. Am I correct I would connect wiim via analog to bypass RN803 dac and use Wiim internal dac instead?

Hi,

If you connect a Wiim to your Yamaha optically or via co-ax you will still be using the DAC in the Yamaha and will be able to Musiccast audio from th Wiim as just another input to your Yamaha. I have done this with a Wiim Mini and a Yamaha RN303.

Are you using tidal connect through Wiim mini and able to avoid using musiccast app to select music. This is all rather confusing to an old guy. If that case I could save $ and use mini or Wiim pro and Yamaha dac

You can connect a WiiM Mini to your Yamaha and then use the WiiM Home App to play Tidal and other music services, including Internet Radio getting the best sound quality and a very good app.

If connected by optical cable you will be using the Yamaha DAC, if connected by analog cable you will be using the WiiMs DAC. What is best can only be decided by trying.

Not using Tidal Connect but have used Amazon Music in that way and have used the Wiim app to control that.
So not using Musiccast other than to power it on/off , volume control, and to select the input
If you have your Wiim set to optical out then whatever you tell the Wiim to play will be seen by the Yamaha on its optical input.
