A more standard approach would be to use a Mini or Pro with the E50 and the Yamaha. I use a Pro with my E50 and it works very well. For what it's worth technically what you are suggesting will probably work using Usb out from the Amp, whether the Wiim Amp to E50 to Yamaha would sound better than...
Go to the 'Join Beta Testing' page under device info tab in the new WHA. See if the firmware is there. I can see it on mine but am not allowed via Qobuz so did not download it.
Just updated 2 Mini's to the beta firmware via the WHA. Adding the Mini's to 4 different groups with 2 Pro's. All groups work and selection functions as I expected.
I also like the fact that when you select the group from the expected primary device you also have the option to add any other...
Checked and same result in my Arylic s50 pro plus, only fringe bbc stations seem to work, consistant across all the Linkplay devices i have. However, bbc 6 music still works on TuneIn on my Bluesound Nodes. 😶
I use a Wiim pro on my desk for such a reason. PC, cd attached by usb, to ddc to Wiim pro toslink in. Can use RC or eq dependent on need and switch to the Pro for multiroom or even streaming if needed but mostly use the PC for content provision. Works seamlessly. 👍

However, the sticking point is if you add another speaker to the group, which will presumably be in another room then...
Have a look at the test results below. They seem to show some difference for jitter between usb and toslink for the SU9 but highlight a way to tune it out by adjusting the digital PLL setting. However as originally said you are into the world of diminishing returns for any changes. Unless you...
