Believe it or not I use the Mini through a $1,700 Denafrips Pontus II. Sounds fantastic. Prior to that I had the Denafrips Ares II which was really great in it's own right. Denafrips changed model names a bit with the Ares line yet still have a DAC in your price range.

Just as a side note, AMHD does have a loudness normalization option in it's native app. Yet playing through the Wiim app it does not seem to matter whether I have it turned on or not.

I find considerable volume variability between songs and the fantastic Mini. Volume normalization or loudness equalization would be even better.

I do no adjusting of playlists, songs, albums, etc. within the Wiim. Everything is done through AMHD. I have had no issues playing music via Wiim Mini as long as I do any and all the reconfiguring within the Amazon Music app only. The changes are then reflected in the Wiim. Still some...
