Hi wiim, I have to say as a 'newcomer' 'wiim amp ultra 3 weeks' i find many of the various discussions in the forum quite intimidating with people obsessing about certain elements of hifi networking pi nas etc etc .. I do get this and the passion is great, but as a new user and visitor things can get very heated very quickly and this can really make the whole wiim thing seem over complicated.
This is a great neat one box solution for most, many will be migrating from a failing sonos system and just want something that works seamlessly, apple style. 🍏
I feel wiim need to get this stereo/surround option nailed and a totally stable stereo multi room option/solution, sonos still seem to be the kings of multi speaker link ups. my old sonos 1s version 1.0 still work perfectly, my switch to wiim was really just on a 'whim' .. :ROFLMAO:
Point is if wiim want people to stay in their ecosystem then it needs to be 'bulletproof' and not require a degree in programming, pi, nas and various other things discussed, or multiple forum visits and tickets to try and resolve what will seem to most a simple problem that shouldnt really exist in their shiny new magic box.

I obtained a Wiim mini a few years ago (their first product), and apart from the initial wifi setup & selecting Bluetooth output, setting up Tidal, I leave it alone. I leave the esoteric options untouched. Almost but not quite plug'n'play 😁.

Not sure what „problems“ you have… 🤷🏼‍♂️
I only have the WiiM Pro+.
For around nearly 2 years now it is the most convenient and „bulletproof“ package I have ever bought! Worked in 15min to my full satisfaction with no hassle in any form!
Vice versa: many new features where added, as roomfit, which is fantastic! You don’t have to use it, it is just a free option we did not expect to come!

as i mentioned this is my 'overall' experience and as i said the forum can be intimadating and confusing. Clearly there are people here sharing their issues and problems looking for answers plus those that are trying to exploit every option to its max to get the very best technically from their wiim based system, trying resolve network and playlist issues plus those with a wider general view.
I was hoping wiim would replace my first gen sonos, but the issues with reliable stereo pairing and multi room, thats going by the forum posts of peoples 'real world' issues mean i probably would not buy the 'sounds' and will just keep my stand alone wiim amp ultra/wharfdale combo as a music system.
As much as i'm not keen on the sonos empire I've just seen the 'sonos era 300s' with atmos etc which could be my answer to a multi room AV setup as opposed to the wiim amp ultra which for me is a neat, simple ( for some ), one box stand alone item that sounds great and has been plug&play in my very basic 'non esoteric' setup. Sometimes less, is more.

Sorry, but I just find this opening thread strange 😉
No one here needs to deal with a NAS, Raspberry Pi, or have programming skills to operate their WiiM streamer. This forum simply looks beyond the horizon to show ways in which the user experience can be enhanced and what ingenious possibilities there are for accessing your music data. Incidentally, these tips do not apply explicitly to WiiM streamers, but can also be applied to other streamers.
To be honest, I don't understand what you expect from “WiiM” with your comments about this forum. A forum is created by its users, and many users have certainly benefited from helpful tips here. If you don't understand an answer or the answer has nothing to do with your question, you are free to let the person who answered know or to clarify your question.

I've been using two Minis since they were launched, immediately reordered two Pros after they were released, and have loved my two additional Ultras for over a year now. For me, it's a functioning ecosystem and an ingenious multi-room solution with world-class support and an exceptional update and support policy.

its the nature of forums different experiences, views and solutions. one size don't fit all. but the wealth of shared knowledge from all over the world is amazing, from hifi to cars to fixing your toaster (y)

The 'woofer and tweeter' sketch/joke is still my favourite :ROFLMAO:

Welcome to WiiM the easiet thing to do if you are having issues is to put a ticket in, and WiiM will help. I was new to WiiM last September, and I have a WiiM Amp Ultra and 2 sound speakers. I am very confused about the NAS and Raspberry Pi. For me, all I want to do is play music and use the WiiM system to enhance my movie watching. The forum does have thread topics, so I find that if I don't want to bother with it, I don't, but they also can be really helpful when you find yourself having issues. Sorry to say, there is no system that is programmed by humans that hasn't had to do any troubleshooting coming from Sonos. I am sure you are aware of that.

Enjoy your day, and again welcome to WiiM 😊

@claudia.bailey .. guessing people have slightly misunderstood my 'new user experience'. I dont have a technical problem with my wiim amp ultra it's working fine, but thank you for the advice and welcome (y) I'm planning on connecting mine for movie/music video watching too 🔊
I use the wiim amp ultra 'USB' socket and a 2tb SSD in an encloser or mini thumb drive to store my music collection, so no 'confusing' Pi or NAS required and a neat storage solution no extra cables.
You will need to check, but im pretty sure your 2 sound speakers should see music stored via the wiim amp ultra USB socket too.
The wiim amp ultra sounds great and is a lovely looking and easy to use piece of kit, enjoy your day too :)

I don't use the USB apart from using headphones or have a NAS drive. I play CD's and stream. I use the speakers for movies and in the morning as a stereo pair to listen to the radio

Just one note regarding this, overall there shouldn't be any reliability or stereo pairing issues with the WiiM Sound or Sound Lite, and the team is hard at work on a whole new flow to make improvements on the experience. We're going to keep on making that better as we go, and getting feedback from users is really key in doing that.

Something to keep in mind when you wind up on forums, especially the official forums, is that this is often where people who have problems come. A sample size made up of only people at the hospital would be convincing that a much larger percentage of the population is sick at any one given time.

As to the general new user experience, I'd love to see more getting started guides and new user experience related content on the board, so if anyone is interested in putting something together, we'd love to see it! And if you just have ideas but no bandwidth to do something yourself, share that too! :)

Hi all,

I’m new to this forum and new to the WiiM family.

Bought myself a WiiM Ultra with a more simple use case: listen to some Internet radio stations and mostly stream my large number of self ripped (with dbpoweramp in flac-File format) music from my CDs and records supplied by my pure SSD-NAS.

My WiiM Ultra is directly optical connected to my active speakers (older Nubert (German speaker manufacturer) A-700). Just a very simple installation.

As being a drummer and sound engineer I’m having the chance to compare my bands recording sessions (also drum recordings from „my seat“ position) I’m more than happy with the result transmitted to my ears.

I know that there might be always „greener gras“ on the other side, but from my point of view my given combination is musical enough to supply my ears in a more than adequate quality. And sure I know how my own recordings sounded in an high end studio. More, I know what kind of sound manipulation have been used to get the given result.

I have tried different other manufacturers before I decided to keep the WiiM Ultra. Even much „higher end“ streamers which were tested in different publications as higher level sounding components. But for me the WiiM was the most attractive offer given the really high class sound quality combined with the availability of inputs - and price!

A couple of minor downsides (date localization in German langauage is faulty, clock only displayed in standby-mode, among others) are integrated - most of the already discussed within this forum - but nothing yet I - personally - couldn’t live with.

Not perfect, but no more imperfect as a record could technically be, is the phono-in but it is fine to have MM and MC available. A function to record the phono-in in to USB would be something very nice, but I’m not expecting this from the Ultra at this price point.

Build quality is fine, even not exceptional, size also and I personally like the BT remote control - something I wish for other devices also. Even if I like the size - a larger screen would be welcome :).

All in all I’m very happy with the given hardware - exceptional at this price point - and sound quality. Even if I will remark that a streamer should not have any special „sound“.

And the software is in further development - a good sign till now (I’m curious how long this will go on) - what is giving room to eliminate the existing flaws.

I will have a closer look what will coming next from WiiM. I like my WiiM Ultra in whole!

Best reagards!

Ah forgot to mention: This post is my first one here and my very personal opinion and experience :-)!

Welcome to the forum.
You are a rare example of someone with realistic expectations regarding this very moderately priced consumer product.
Many others come here and outright complain about missing features which are usually only found on high-end or studio gear at a high multiple of the price of the WiiM.
It‘s refreshing to see that there are still a few sane people around.

As for the sound quality I am convinced that modern audio gear (streamers, DACs and (most digital) amps) has reached the limits of audible discrimination.
I‘d love to witness a blind test of a WiiM Ultra vs. a high-end Lumin streamer/DAC.

@rsm ... 'Willkommen' it's great to hear about 'your wiim experience' (y) .. your skills and knowledge as a musician i'm sure will lead to many interesting discussions :)
It would also be great to hear about the rest of your set up, speakers etc and your views on the future of music and audio
Look forward to hearing more from you 🥁 (y)

I have recently invested in the Wiim family and have to say I have been quite impressed. For years I used Google Home Maxes in stereo and was generally happy. Once Spotify began to offer Hi Res music I decided I wanted to build a system that would allow me to take advantage of the increase in bit depth. This lead me to first purchase a Wiim Ultra to connect to my GHM speakers. The improvement was fantastic.

After a couple of months of my improved setup I decided that I wanted to go with passive speakers, and so last month ended up purchasing Klipsch RP 600mII speakers and a Vibelink amp. Now I have complete stereo system (Turntable, FLAC files on USB HD, Wiim Ultra all powered by a Vibelink connected to my speakers. I have to say the musicality of this new system is amazing. All of these upgrades have lead my wife and I to fall back in love with listening to music and not just playing music as a background sound track to our morning and evening routines.

@jndyer .. its great when a plan comes together .. yes for me too the wiim amp ultra with my old existing diamonds 9.1s has generated a new interest, and as you say now more than just background sound (y)

I
@jndyer ..

1/ can I ask for your thoughts on the Klipsch RP 600mII speakers
and
2/ do you think they would work well with the 'amp ultra' ?
I really enjoy the Klipsch speakers. I know some people think they are to boosted in the treble, however, I love the way they sound, especially using a modified the Wiim Ultra Rock eq (I modify the Ultra Rock EQ by bringing the boost to the low frequency down by a db). I find it critical in my listening space to have the speakers at least twelve inches off the wall to keep a boomy bass sound from overpowering my music.
