It would be great to be able to have a simple interface (similar to webpage(s) provided by Material skin plugin in LMS or menus of a Squeezebox Radio) on the screen of the Wiim Ultra to be able to select music, genres or playlists for playback.

Much as I'm an LMS user, I wouldn't sacrifice the Material Skin interface on my PC & Ipad for the tiddly screen on the Ultra, plus WiiM would need to develop an LMS control point over and above the Squeezelite player they have.

If they end up doing something like this for UPNP servers, then you could use the old and unsupported LMS UPNP media server plugin and save WiiM expending resources on a specific LMS client.

Yeah that's one thing missing from Wiim, ability to navigate and choose album by the screen etc.

Problem is the screen is pretty small, smaller than the Touch.

So I would think it's a bit useless. Unless Wiim have a screen similar to size to the Eversolo.

My use case is that I don’t want to have to pick up my phone (or hand it over to my kids!) to select music. The beauty of kit like the squeezebox radio or squeezebox v3 is that you don’t need a phone or tablet to select music (and the screen is smaller on the radio than the Wiim Ultra). I’d say the screen is probably ‘big enough’ for basic album/playlist etc. selection.

I believe you can use a SB Touch to control the Ultra
I get it wanting direct touch control.

I don't think the screen is big enough, for enough text onscreen, with large music collection. It's fine for USB stick playback etc, that I would agree with you on that.

Ideally a bigger screen though..

I am on record as saying I am not ever going to be buying an Ultra because the screen is too small to be usuable and that remains the case.

For Now Playing/Touch control I have a number of re-purposed o2 Jogglers. They are ideal and can be picked up on UK eBay for c£30 a piece but don't tell anyone. You just have to flash them with a version of SqueezeOS.

Isn't the sb screen effectively a small, dedicated tablet screen? Would a dedicated, small Android tablet, locked down to the WiiM app be a suitable substitute, or is that too tempting for people to move? I'm thinking about the same thing right now.
