Hi,

I seem to have lost the option to edit my own posts.

I posted a reply today and re-reading it I noticed a couple of embarassing typos.
Previously I have been able to edit a post to correct such things but am now not getting an edit option.
Has there been a forum config change to remove the ability to edit ?

Thanks

Is it because someone has reacted to the post and that then freezes the post content ?

I believe that this feature is now only available for a limited time period after posting. If a member would like their post editing after this period, they can report the post, and request it to be edited by an admin or moderator.

Hi,

It was not a time issue. I tried to edit within two hours of originally posting.

Per my second post I think it may be thatwhen someone reacts that locks the post.

It would be nice to confirm thats the case

Thanks

I think that post editing might only be available for one hour, but you could be right about if your post has had a reply.

To be honest, I don’t see a need for any time limit - it’s not as if we have any evidence of members mischievously editing posts and causing issues. Sounds like a fix for an non-existent problem tbh.

Members of this forum have previously been known to do just that, and add suspicious links, and if I’m not mistaken, I think that you may have reported such activity in the past. 🤔

But that's soon fixed - it's clear to the mods, who can see exactly who has edited what and how.

I'm on a lot of social media forums, and I'm not sure I've seen the time limit for editing used very often, nor its absence causing large issues.

And I know a lot of places which are far more 'lively' than here.

But if someone has edited something to cause trouble, this will surely be pointed out to you, and sooner rather than later.

Possibly, but only if someone else had noticed the suspicious edited post, and bothered to report it.

Agreed. But if someone edits a post to cause trouble for someone, and no one notices, including the person they were trying to make trouble for, that's a bit like a tree falling in a forest when there's no one there, isn't it?

Sometimes posts are edited to include advertising links to other websites, which may go against the forum’s community guidelines.

Similarly, members have been known to post suspicious links in their profile about section, so it would be useful if they had to be approved by admins or moderators, in the way that changes in email addresses, and certain other site preferences are currently done.

True, but I think it was sometimes the case that the link had been there and wasn’t noticed till they had tried it on a new post, and it caused me to check their previous posts.

And as the master of typos myself, I can see a need to go back and edit quite frequently…

I’m wondering if it’s only impacting certain users as I can edit my posts from at least ten days ago - is that some “superpower” since I’m a community curator even though I can’t edit anyone else’s posts like mods/admin can?
