I was hoping maybe the amp pro would have allowed plugging your phone into the usb. Allowing for simultaneous playback of hi res audio. If you plug your iPhone or iPad into a external DAC won’t that bypass the WiiM and all its dsp greatness?

Not really as all analogue input to a WiiM is digitised so can avail itself of EQ/peq/rc etc in the WiiM.

Yes but it mentioned earlier to plug into an external dac to get Apple Music hi res. Why use a external dac to then throw that signal back to the line in?

You could connect your phone to the optical input of your amp. See the following post for how I do it.

I have an old iPad. If I hook it up to the Ultra’s usb connection with a lightning to usb cable will I be able to play Apple Music in high res? Or is the usb not able to do that? Thanks.

Yeah, but like all things, it depends on whether the first DAC and then the ADC in the WiiM, and finally the WiiM DAC if you were finally outputting analogue, are good enough that you wouldn’t notice any loss of quality. I wouldn’t say it was like converting an mp3 to flac and then back to mp3 which supposedly isn’t a good idea…

It’s all good Im not interest in getting Apple Music on my WiiM. That ship has sailed lol I’m just curious on how others are getting it on their WiiM’s. And from what I’ve read so far is that it’s not worth it. The average user just want to plug their WiiM and get rolling. Too many dongles or too much conversion for my liking. But your solution is the least painful lol

For instance you could buy a second handed android device for certain tasks.

I don’t blame WiiM either. Apple has a history of not playing well with others unfortunately. So I went with Qobuz recently.

There must be a reason Apple is the most valued co in the world (US$3.5T)... Badmouth Apple Music if you will, but I think they offer some of the best quality soundtracks (including in Airplay2) and I subscribe or tested them all in a variety of high-end audio pipelines.

I don’t think anyone is badmouthing Apple. It’s just when they don’t want to play anymore they take their ball and go home. Always have always will. Thats why they are worth what they are worth. I would like to see AirPlay be improved to that standard. But where would you send the signal that would accept hi res? Apple TV? No. HomePod? lol Apple would make an exclusive deal with 1 company and force us to buy that product lol I can see it now

Use Soundiiz, FreeYourMusic, TuneMyMusic, or Songshift to transfer playlists, favourites etc
