Advanced mode for Minim Server

Checking out Minim Server (the free starter version) I inevitably came across the 'advanced mode' for browsing this server in the WiiM Home App.
It looks quite nice and also has some valuable features like for instance the letter register on the right hand side.

But I have two questions as I couldn't find any related settings:

Can I switch form grid view to list view?
In legacy mode albums are sorted by name. In the advanced mode they are sorted by date. Can I change this in the advanced mode?

I assume you are talking about the WiiM implementation of the server UI, so please check the documentation in

Thank you, @hgo58 .
Though this doesn't solve my query.

I should have been more specific. I can switch from grid to list view and also choose the sorting on the first level (e.g. Album, Album Artits, Genre etc.). But as soon as you go a step deeper (e.g. see all albums of an Album Artist) there is only the grid view and no option to change the sorting.

This isn't a deal breaker for me, just wondering.

I have Minim server (running on Synology NAS). If you pay one time license, you will get access to "advanced" mode. It isa not necessary to pay yearly subscription.
In advanced mode you can set sorting of albums. My sorting is done according release date, since I like to go back in time :-).
This is working perfectly with Wiim

Thank you @pkrasulja .

But I was talking about the advanced mode in the WHA, not that of Mimim itself.

But just to make sure, would you take look at my post #3 please and let me know if my ‚problem‘ would be solved by the advanced options of Minim?

In the licensed version of MinimServer you're able to set a default album sort order e.g. AlbumArtist > OriginalReleaseDate > Album. This order is used in all album lists but can be overridden by the control point if it offers such functionality.

Grid/List view is controlled by the WiiM Home app.

The licensed version also allows you to create configurable A-Z jump lists per index e.g. present an A-Z index when the album list is greater than 250 items.

That’s all very nice and I appreciate the input but none of it answers my question. Never mind.

My question relates to the Advanced mode of the WHA when scanning the Minim standard version.
As quoted in my reply,

Going back to your original question

There is no display configuration, so if the options aren't there (to sort/switch view) then it's not possible. I'd assume that viewing an artist's discography in chronological order is what most people expect, though I'm not a fan of grid view.

The problem here is that I've yet to scan an external server with the Wiim home app and see anything more "advanced" when switching to advanced mode.

Advanced mode is not very advanced. You just have the options you've described.

Legacy mode will allow you to use whatever options the server itself provides.

So the answers to your questions are no and no.

I can live with a distinct NO 😂. Thank you!
The ‚Advanced mode‘ just looks a bit nicer.

It turns all servers into bad MiniDLNA clones.

If it were just that it didn't offer any advantage over Legacy mode it wouldn't be so bad, but it actually introduces problems, even with the fairly basic Starter edition of MinimServer:
  • The use of the GROUP tag causes the duplication/separation of albums
  • The use of the DISCSUBTITLE tag causes tracks within albums to be out of sequence (on multi-disc albums)
  • Because of the way "advanced" mode is built, the Artists index contains the unique track artist concatenations (affects search too) e.g.
    • Elton John, Brandi Carlile
    • Elton John, Charlie Puth
    • Elton John, Young Thug, Nicki Minaj
    • ...
  • The Genres index also contains concatenated values e.g. "Blues, Jazz, R&B"

What's annoying, is that the few useful features there are in advanced mode (A-Z jumplist/grid/sort) could easily have been implemented in legacy mode, and benefitted many more users.

Fortunately there are much better third party options available, and the WiiM is a very robust UPnP renderer.

Fortunately I use a very straight forward tagging scheme. My tags are all discrete value tags, No multiple values. And I don‘t use uncommon tags, never even heard of DISCSUBTITLE.
So none of those quirks affect me.
But there are certainly more sophisticated solutions. For the time being I can live with it as is.

Yes with your tagging approach the All Artists index in MinimServer is already broken (not a unique list of artists), so it's no worse in Advanced mode.

DiscSubtitle is primarily used for box sets.
