Airplay on Ultra

Just dawned on me having no AirPlay on Ultra, sent Apple Music via AirPlay to my mini then linked my Ultra and presto both playing the Apple Music.
Quality of music on Ultra not sure but sounds ok to my ears.

As has often been said, Apple Music over Airplay 2 only delivers lossy 256kbps AAC, while Linkplay grouping allows up to 24/48 bandwidth which is way more than sufficient for that.

Using another airplay compatible WiiM device, or indeed another airplay receiver, has also been mooted as a workaround for the lack of airplay support on the Ultra and Amp Pro.

Airconnect has also been suggested as per this link https://forum.wiimhome.com/threads/...-sonos-chromecast-players-using-airplay.4644/

Just thought to me it was an easy workaround rather that going down the blue tooth path.
Probably lots of people have already worked this out but it’s new to me!

That’s why the forum search facility is handy 😉

Yes I’m not overly bothered about hi res with apple, I can get that through Amazon or Tidal,I even listen to Sound cloud which certainly is not hi res!

Anything related with airplay need to closed because it’s already been explained by wiim. We just had enough of this topic.

WiiM never explained how to AirPlay to a mini then connect that to the Ultra.
I’m sure they just said use Bluetooth for similar quality.

Or you can just kindly refer new members to one of the many solutions out there.

It just goes to show there's still a big demand for the feature.

+1 for the Airconnect solution, which doesn't require you to buy an additional WiiM Mini - if you already have a computer, raspberry pi or other kind of server like a NAS

It’s been mooted often enough in the forum and the WiiM Facebook page that it really doesn’t need to come from WiiM themselves - indeed, some might react negatively if WiiM were to suggest buying another WiiM device to overcome the shortcomings in another.

It seems WiiM didn’t see it as a particular short coming or they wouldn’t have released the Ultra and to be fair it hasn’t really affected its popularity that much.
Also the majority of reviews have been excellent.

I posted this elsewhere but it can be a solution to this thread’s problem:

A lot of posts on the lack of Airplay on recent WiiM product launches. There is a solution for that in the WiiM ecosystem for those considering the just announced AudioPro WiiM edition powered speakers.

The AudioPro WiiM speakers are very nice powered speakers, controlled by the WiiM Home App. And… they support AirPlay 2. For those building a growing WiiM ecosystem music delivery in their homes, to add an A10 say to a corner environment or a larger C10 in a larger location makes sense. Either one can be a node to receive AirPlay and seamlessly broadcast it to a WiiM group - including Ultra and Amp Pro (both lacking AirPlay). I am doing just that AirPlaying Apple Music to a bunch of WiiM locations including Ultra and Amp Pro. And I agree with those saying that AirPlay sounds quite good - Apple’s AAC implementation is excellent.

AirPlay source > AudioPro WiiM powered speaker > Grouped to other WiiM devices.
