Hello,
I recognized that my Wiim Amp Pro is suddenly running really hot.
When touching it I almost burn my hands and do not know why this is happening, I'm really afraid about that high temperatures.

When checking the temperature via API (https://<IP-ADRESS>/httpapi.asp?command=getStatusEx) I see following:
"PCB_version": "1"
"firmware": "Linkplay.5.2.717556"
"temperature_power_control": "1000"
"temperature_cpu": "57"
"temperature_tmp102": "58"

This can't be normal I guess? For now I will unplug and not further use it.

Hope someone from Wiim can reply to my post and give me an instruction what to do.

Best regards

This is primarily a user discussion and support forum. If you want to directly contact WiiM, use the more/feedback section in the WiiM home app so they can inspect your device logs.

How long has the amp been running since it was last switched on, and at what volume level have you been playing it at? Also, what’s the ambient temperature in your room?

Hello,

room temperature is 26° Celsius, the Wiim was running for multiple weeks without interruption and the volume level is set to 21%.
Also the temperature did not decrease after a restart and it keeps being that high even in standby mode.

I do not have a sensor to check the case temperature.
But since touching it nearly burns my hand, the temperature shown via API seems to be reasonable to me.

The case of my Amp Pro is really hot.
I also compared the temps shown via API to my normal Wiim Amp, which shows a much lower CPU temperature and has a cool case:
"temperature_cpu": "39"

So i suspect something being wrong with my Amp Pro.

I just fired up my WiiM Amp Pro after two day of being disconnected from the mains grid. After 15 minutes or so and at an ambient temperature of 26⁰C I get a reading of
"temperature_cpu": "41"
"temperature_tmp102": "33"

This is with no music playing at all. Your numbers don't look too unreasonable for me, but I wouldn't expect the case to be too hot to touch.

I don't think you can directly compare the WiiM Amp and the WiiM Amp Pro. Can you disconnect all external cables (including speaker cables) and USB devices and check again?

Presumably that is not on standby. My Amp, not Amp Pro is sitting at 35 in a 25 ambient after two hours of standby.

Exactly. I think that @Amiibo made it very clear that his WiiM Amp Pro was not I standby.

I had my Amp Pro playing the RadionParadise Rock Mix at volume setting 21 (which is not a vaild comparison) and the readings I sea are now:
"temperature_cpu": "47"
"temperature_tmp102": "48"

Still a fair bit lower. Recording a baseline reading on idle mode looks like a good ideas to me anyway.

If there has been a clear importante change while the conditions of use have not reallychanged...

it is normal to be worried...

After you send in your trouble ticket through the app (and the logs that get sent), reboot it. It's possible there's a runaway software process that has the CPU pinned at 100%.

I think @Amiibo already did that.

Removing the device from the mains power for a couple of minutes is the safe way of makiz sure the device is really booting from scratch, second only to a factory reset.

Strange, don't have an idea but can say that 60 Celsius (If that is the case temperature after some time) feels really hot for us humans. You will not burn yourself but it will "almost" feel that way.

I know I just said that comparing the WiiM Amp Pro to the WiiM Amp might not be appropriate.

But here are my readings for the WiiM Amp Ultra after watching TV for less than 3 hours at slightly elevated levels:

"temperature_cpu": "52"
"temperature_tmp102": "53"

You don't mention what your speaker load is. What is the expected impedance on each channel, and are you able to measure that to see if it close to the actual load? The lower the load, the higher I would expect the temperature to rise.

My WiiM Amp Pro running continuously at volume setting 21:
"temperature_cpu": "54"
"temperature_tmp102": "58"

I don't see any problem with that.

'm really afraid about that high temperatures
When I got my vibelink amp, I was concerned about heat as it felt a bit hot to the touch on the sides of the casing. I found a temperature probe and checked and it was only running at 39Deg although it felt warmer to the touch. I then found my IR thermometer and ran some tests with it and the result was the same. It actually felt hotter than it was. I think the ambient temperature and the length of time running have to be taken into account. Some class A amps run really hot and valve amps do too. I would suggest that if it's a big concern then contact wiim through the app and they could have a look to see if there is an issue.

Some time later:
"temperature_cpu": "54"
"temperature_tmp102": "59"

Nothing to worry about.
