Amp Pro volume conspicuousness

I've noticed something about my Amp Pro for quite some time now (I think that's been the case from the beginning!?).

It's nothing really tragic, but I'd just be interested to know if others have experienced the same thing.

It happens quite often that after the device has been in standby for a longer time (mainly in the morning), it does not play at the actual volume setting, but is significantly quieter. You then have to change the volume once to get everything back to normal.

As I said, I'd like to know if others have noticed this behaviour?

Maybe this is due to the frequent reboots that the WiiM devices do automatically.

When this volume change happens, do you see that the WiiM Home App "Now Playing" page have been reset?

Also note that if you have turned on the Per Source Volume, then the volume changes when you change input.

Please ensure that "Per-source Volume Control" is enabled in the audio input settings screen. If it is disabled, please enable it.

The WiiM amp has been modified so that the volume decreases upon reboot (I believe it was set to 30%). Enabling this toggle will prevent the volume from decreasing.

That was the first thing I checked, but the volume is the same as it was the day before. I'm wondering right now whether it could have something to do with the fact that I usually switch off my smartphone overnight. That shouldn't really matter, should it?

Also note that if you have turned on the Per Source Volume, then the volume changes when you change input.

I have disabled this setting.

I will activate that and report back if the phenomenon continues to occur.

Does (can) this only happen after a proper reboot or also when waking up from standby, as in my case?

Please manually reboot your WiiM to ensure the volume has not decreased.

The WiiM device automatically reboots once every three days. This resets the volume to its default setting. You can prevent this by enabling Per-source Volume.

There is no difference between auto and manual reboots.

"You then have to change the volume once to get everything back to normal" implies to me that merely adjusting the volume makes it suddenly, and significantly, change volume.
What is your usual listening volume?
It could be related to the volume resetting to 35 after a reboot.
The only times I've noticed a huge change in volume from a single volume buttons press (this is on a 'normal' wiim pro) is when I very first use the tablet buttons to adjust the volume and it seems to reduce drastically to whatever my tablet volume was. I normally run the pro at 100 variable and use the headphone amp remote for volume.
This is normally with Tidal Connect for me, no idea if that's relevant.

Please manually reboot your WiiM to ensure the volume has not decreased.

After activating volume control per source, I rebooted the device and the volume remained at the previously set level of 26. We will see if this also affects the problem I described.

26? That is lower than the default volume after a reboot so it is strange that you reported that the volume was quieter.

What is your usual listening volume?

Depending on the source material, my mood and the time of day, I listen to between 20 and 40, but actually never louder than that.

To avoid misunderstandings, I probably need to explain this in more detail.

Assuming that the device goes into standby mode at 24 the day before, it may happen that the next morning, after waking up the Amp, the volume is significantly lower than it would normally be at 24. If I then change the volume to 25 or even 23 via the app, for example, the whole thing is as loud as usual again.

But is it still showing 24 in the app after the wake-up? Regardless of what it is really playing at.

Does the volume become significantly lower while the volume bar value remains at 24%?

If so, it's unrelated to Per-source Volume.
As it issue has not occurred on my Amp Pro, it may be specific to your device.

Next time this issue occurs,
please submitting a ticket via the feedback section in the WiiM app.
(WiiM home > More > Feedback)

Your device logs will be sent, which will help resolve the issue.

Yes, therefore my irritation.

I suppose I'll have to do that then.

Year, that's the problem, it's still showing 24.
One thing that just came to my mind.
While the amp did a reboot, what about the app on your phone? Had you really shut it down or just brought to the background?

It could be worth a try to shut down the app, reopen it and see what it will display then.

My Amp Pro also has a quirk with the volume. Moving the slider makes the volume kick in to a higher level. Like it is resetting something. I recently became discouraged with room correction making my Amp Pro sound worse so I moved the unit to the garage. So the volume issue is easier to 8gnore.

I power cycle my WiiM Amp Pro almost every single day and I always only use one source/input (which is Wi-Fi) and I observe the exact same behaviour.

I don't think it's related to per-source volume control, since my only source is Wi-Fi and the actual volume is always lower than 35 when this is happening.

@Optimust, do you have any alarms set? My suspicion is that the volume set for an alarm might influence the volume setting, even if the alarm does not fire (either because it is disabled or because the unit was disconnected from the mains power during the time the alarm would fire otherwise).

The fact that I'm not the only one experiencing this problem gives me at least a little bit of hope, that it might be a software bug after all.

However, I've never set up an alarm on my Amp Pro, so that's probably not the cause.

Ultimately, you could say it's a blessing in disguise; it would be much worse if the device were so loud when switched on, that it would immediately destroy the speakers ... 💣;)

Nevertheless, I will forward this to Wiim next time it happens, maybe they can tell something about it.
