Another USB hub question

I tried the search but couldn't find an answer: I'm using the USB port with an attached SSD drive, so can't obviously use the USB out to an external DAC (in my case, a Fiio K11 R2R which allows switching from OS to NOS mode only in USB connection) - would that be possible with a USB hub? Please excuse if this has already been discussed before.

Yes, it works. Many people do this.

Yes. There are several threads pointing that out.

Example in thread 'Nice little USB Hub :)' https://forum.wiimhome.com/threads/nice-little-usb-hub.8100/

Thank you both. As I wrote, my search didn't come up with anything related to my question. Sorry but tx again!

This one doesn't work - the Ultra doesn't recognize it ... I tried every input on the hub.

This one is un-powered and I usually use it on my Macbook (no extra power connection needed). I connected this to the Ultra and then connected the USB stick (actually a small SSD which stores my music files and is usually connected directly to the Ultra), trying all three ports on the hub: not recognized in the WiiM app.

And the SSD work ok when plugged in directly without the hub?

A usb hub is usually a passive component, so it should not matter what one you use.

Yes the SSD is "always on" and works flawless. After removing the hub I re-connected the SSD and it was recognized immediately.

I use a powered hub. no problem. have a 2tb hhd and go usb out of wimm to hub to Schitt Eitr to MHDT DAC no issues except i have to do rescan the music every now and then

I have K11r2r like you and Fiio Warmer. Nos/Os mode in both devices works with no problems even with Coax connection. Not only USB

Quoting John Darko: TOSLINK and coaxial inputs operate only in NOS mode. If you insist on OS mode, you’ll need to feed the Warmer over USB. FiiO hasn’t confirmed this explicitly, but we might reasonably assume that the OS mode’s mathematical processing must run on the Warmer’s USB receiver chip, through which S/PDIF signals do not pass.

Just tried again. The hub (with the SSD connected) gets recognized after a minute but then "disappears" again after a few seconds.

Sounds like a very weird statement to me honestly

Looks pretty much like the one I have (Ugreen).
Your hub looks like it has a LED, so some sort of electronics inside. However minimal they might be it's probably enough to suck up the available current to a degree that your DAC is underfed.

While we're at it.
Why are the connectors used in audio still USB A? I would have thought that USB C is the new standard.

... While coming from Fiio themselves. Quote (re. the Fiio Warmer DAC):
Notes:
1.Typically, set UAC to UAC2.0. If connecting to devices like PS5 or Switch, switch the UAC mode to 1.0.
2.OS/NOS settings are only effective in USB decoding mode.
