Apple Music Anyone know definitively why there’s no Apple Music integration?

I’ve been reading lately that while Eversolo and FiiO can offer hi res lossless Apple Music thru their use of the official Apple Music app on a version of Android with a modded audio subsystem, that Eversolo also offer an “Apple Music service” on their devices which is limited to CD quality playback in addition to the “remote control” of the native Apple Music app. The service route also doesn’t seem to support gapless playback or playlist folders. I understand Hifi Rose have a similar implementation.

I wonder if that route would be of any use for WiiM users or whether sticking with AirPlay (on WiiM devices that support it) would be their preference. I was just thinking given that a couple of other streamer companies appear to be able to do this whether there’d be any point in WiiM trying to develop similar. I don’t know how “official” that route/API is so maybe it would still come with caveats (or obstructions) from Apple…

Just musing…
had the chance to try a few of the android based streamers from fiio. and eversolos up to 8. that apple music works good is wrong. not the full functionality, not gapless and i never reached more than cd quality. if anyone is looking for another streamer only for apple music lossless hd it will be a disappointment. at least for now.

It's probably a commercial issue rather than a technical, that stops WiiM from integrating Apple proprietary services.

Here it the forum I found a statement from Wiim that its a technical reason why it does not support Apple Music. If this is the real reason or it's a money thing ... only they know :-) Apple Music Support would be awesome. I changed from Spotify to Apple Music and for sure you can hear the difference - would be nice to have it implemented in the Ultra or any other Wiim device. Till then we need to use usb via iPhone or ipad

being the first company to have apple on board would be the real goal. few weeks ago i thought time has come. the power socket from the vibelink is the same as on my macs 😂😂
I'm glad I don't have to pay for an overpriced Apple. I don't need it at all.

Add: WiiM would probably have to pay a high licence per unit to include Apple technology.

I think you’re confusing Apple Music with Airplay in that statement about a technical reason…

Likely so, but then again WiiM have successfully implemented support for the major streaming services - Google’s YouTube Music, Amazon’s Music Unlimited, Qobuz, Tidal, Deezer, Spotify etc - and there must be a good number of WiiM devices already sold with a proportion of them being Apple Music users, or iPhone users invested in the Apple ecosystem. Cutting off nose to spite face springs to mind…

I’m well aware of the lack of airplay and the possible reasons behind that (all conjecture admittedly), but surely it’s time for Apple to bury the hatchet or take a wider commercial view ( or for WiiM to produce a gloss white streamer ;) ) Or maybe they don’t care…

living more or less completely in the 'overprized' 😉 apple world for telecommunication and computing is no reason for me not to have wiim for streaming. qobuz and tidal for me. a lot of other services for others. apple for mobile use. living in perfect harmony. would be a nice to have. not really important.

yes it really is time ... you can get it to work but its a real pain. Lightning/usb-c converter to optical/coxial out (around 35€ which is ok) but then you always have to use your iPhone on a cable (like in the car / car play) to get real 24bit/192kHz. I got a old iPad mini which would be awesome as a screen next to the Wiim ultra but the first iPad mini which supports Apple Music High-Res Audio is the iPad mini 5th generation which is still 200€ even used ...

I have a 6th gen iPad Mini, and all the goodies to connect it in my Amazon shopping list; I just haven gotten around to actually ordering it all (spent too much already on the rest of the system!). I’m still trying to figure out the best logistics for stringing the whole mess together and minimize the departures from the couch (Amp Ultra is at the other end of the room, and I am embarrassingly lazy). I will get to it one day soon, but for now I’m pretty happy with BT from my phone. Otherwise, it really would be nice to have true lossless streaming directly into the amp.

i will try the following way now: lightning out --> lightning to usb-c cable --> SMSL PO100 to optical out --> via cable --> optical in of the Wiim Ultra .. lets see :-) it should be 24bit/192kHz ...

the never ending myth about overpriced apple products is boring. of course you can have another opinion. or life style. or taste. what i do not understand are this insidious tendencies in such statements. why? live and let live. do you think you shine smarter cause you pay less?

A cheap Android phone or tablet with WiiM Home App and your services apps installed and you are up and running.

always the same ... let them talk ... since 20 years I´m working with apple products and really happy with them. Till today the 2017 iMac 5k Panel (LG Monitor still costs 1100€ in 2025) is one of the best on the market ... it runs 10 hours a day since 6 years straight and never had one problem. Same with my M2 MacBook / iPhone (great Apple Music integration in the car) ... and iOS 26, MacOS 26 makes it even more exciting to use this products. Overpriced ... Mac mini with the m4 chip is really fast and one of the fair priced computer on the market.
